About RSPCA Queensland

For more than 140 years, RSPCA Queensland has been a leading animal welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of animals whether domestic, farmed, or native. We care for over 42,000 animals annually, relying on the generosity of animal lovers like you to fund 91% of our life-changing services.

Our Purpose: We exist for animals to live better lives.

About the Role

As our Op Shop Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day operations of an RSPCA Op Shop, driving sales, delivering exceptional customer service, and creating a welcoming experience for customers, donors, and volunteers.

Working closely with our local community, you’ll oversee store presentation, merchandising, volunteer engagement, and sales performance, ensuring the store operates successfully while supporting RSPCA Queensland’s mission to improve the lives of animals.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a hands-on retail leader who enjoys leading teams, building relationships, and making a meaningful impact through their work.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced retail professional who is passionate about customer service, team leadership, and creating positive shopping experiences. You’ll bring a strong understanding of retail operations and enjoy balancing commercial outcomes with community engagement.

You’ll be an enthusiastic and approachable leader with the ability to motivate staff and volunteers, build strong relationships, and create a welcoming environment for both customers and supporters. Confident in managing competing priorities, you’ll be comfortable making decisions, solving problems, and adapting to changes in a fast-paced retail environment.

You’ll enjoy being part of a purpose-driven organisation where no two days are the same and where your contribution has a direct impact on animal welfare outcomes.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Op Shop, ensuring a high standard of customer service and store presentation.
  • Drive sales performance through effective merchandising, product presentation, upselling, and promotional activities.
  • Manage stock levels, donation processing, and product displays to maximise sales opportunities.
  • Support, coach, and engage staff and volunteers to create a positive and productive team culture.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, donors, local businesses, and community stakeholders.
  • Promote RSPCA Queensland’s services, initiatives, and fundraising activities within the local community.
  • Oversee point-of-sale operations, cash handling, till reconciliations, and daily administrative requirements.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, safety, and compliance with organisational policies and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor store performance against key operational and financial targets.
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives that drive continuous improvement, customer engagement, and sales growth.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in retail leadership, including supervising staff or volunteers.
  • Demonstrated experience in stock management, merchandising, and maintaining retail presentation standards.
  • Strong customer service skills with a proven ability to create positive customer experiences.
  • Experience achieving sales targets and confidently upselling or cross-selling products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and support teams to achieve operational and sales objectives.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Sound cash-handling experience and confidence with point-of-sale systems and retail technology.
  • Knowledge of fashion brands, quality donated goods, or second-hand retail operations will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to undertake manual handling activities, including lifting donations and stock up to 10kg.
  • A genuine commitment to animal welfare and alignment with RSPCA Queensland’s purpose and values.
