For nearly 140 years, RSPCA Queensland has been a leading animal welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of animals – whether domestic, farmed, or native. We care for over 42,000 animals annually, relying on the generosity of animal lovers like you to fund 91% of our life-changing services.

Our Purpose: We exist for animals to live better lives.

About the Role

Join RSPCA Queensland as a Community Liaison Officer and play a hands-on role in improving animal welfare outcomes across Far North Queensland. This is a fixed-term, full-time opportunity based in Townsville, focused on building strong community connections, improving access to veterinary care and delivering practical support, education and outreach programs that help keep people and pets together.

As part of our Community & Prevention team, you’ll work directly with community members, rescue groups, veterinary clinics, local organisations and internal stakeholders to proactively address animal welfare concerns before they escalate. From coordinating community outreach days and supporting vulnerable pet owners through our People & Pets Program, through to delivering education and building referral pathways, this is a role with genuine impact on both animals and people.

This is a highly rewarding and varied opportunity suited to someone who thrives on community engagement, relationship building and meaningful, purpose-driven work.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a people-focused and community-minded professional who genuinely cares about improving outcomes for animals and the people who love them. You’re confident building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and know how to engage communities with empathy, professionalism and respect.

Highly organised and proactive, you’re comfortable balancing case management, stakeholder engagement, community outreach and administration in a fast-paced environment. You enjoy working autonomously, take initiative and bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to challenging situations.

Most importantly, you’re passionate about prevention, education and supporting long-term positive animal welfare outcomes within the community.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver the People & Pets Program, supporting clients through referrals, case management and practical assistance.
  • Engage with local communities to improve animal welfare practices and access to veterinary care and resources.
  • Coordinate and deliver community outreach days, education sessions and local engagement activities.
  • Build strong referral pathways and partnerships with veterinary clinics, community groups, local councils and human welfare organisations
  • Support vulnerable pet owners through education, resources and access to services.
  • Represent RSPCA Queensland within the community and promote animal welfare initiatives and programs.
  • Coordinate volunteers supporting community and prevention programs.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, records, reporting and administrative documentation.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to identify opportunities to reduce animal welfare concerns, cruelty reports and surrenders.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative and values-driven team culture.
  • What You’ll Bring to the Role
  • Experience working in community engagement, case management, program delivery or stakeholder-focused roles.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse communities.
  • Excellent organisation, time management and administrative skills.
  • Confidence managing competing priorities and working independently in the field.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset with strong professional judgement.
  • High level interpersonal skills, empathy and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong written communication and intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability within fast-paced and sometimes challenging environments.
  • Genuine passion for animal welfare and community support.
  • Ability to perform physical duties, including animal handling and manual tasks where required.

Compliance Requirements

  • Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain.
  • Open Driver License and reliable access to your own vehicle.
