Swim Teachers

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the delivery and development of swimming and water safety

lessons using RLSSA Swim & Survive program, for children from 6 months to 14 years. Programs may

include School Swimming, Sunday Lifesaving, VACSWIM programs, and Junior Lifeguard programs.

Scope of Duties:

1. Prepare and conduct swimming and water safety lessons for children involved in the RLSSA

NT’s schools swimming and water safety program using the Royal Life Saving Society’s

Swim and Survive program.

2. Plan, teach, assess & record lessons using the resources provided by Water Safety Manager.

3. Complete casual time sheets every day, ready for collection on the Wednesday before the end of the financial fortnight.

4. Record attendance & participation of every student at every lesson & submit the completed

assessment checklists to the designated team leader on the last Wednesday of the program.

5. Responsible for the setup and pack-up of equipment at the beginning and end of each program. Must arrive 15 minutes before the beginning of each shift and be prepared to stay up to 15 minutes following the shift.

6. In the event of an incident occurring in your program, an incident report must be completed as soon as physically possible & the form submitted to the Team Leader.

7. It is expected that as a member of the RLSSANT team, the position may be requested to perform duties as determined by the RLSSANT Executive Director such as represent RLSSA-NT at promotional events.

8. Maintain current membership of RLSSANT.

9. Attendance at twice yearly Swim Teacher professional development in-services.

10. Maintain currency of all relevant qualifications.

Responsible To:

The position will be based at various pools in the Northern Territory & the employee will be responsible to the RLSSANT Water Safety Manager.

Experience Required:

·Extensive experience in teaching swimming & water safety.

·Experience in the RLSSANT Swim & Survive Program.

·     Extensive experience communicating safe aquatic practices.

·      The safety education role of RLSSANT Swim Teachers to the community.

• Qualifications

·     Current Resuscitation certificate.

·     Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety

·     AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Pre-school Aquatics if required

·     Desirable

·     Ability to teach the RLSSANT Goldfishbowl program.

·     Ability to coach squads.

·     AUSTSWIM Adults AUTSWIM Competitive Stroke & AUSTSWIM Teacher of Access & Inclusion qualifications.

·     Current First Aid.

·     NT Driver’s license.

·     Understanding Northern Territory education curriculum.

·     Knowledge of Life Saving as a Sport and application in Secondary schools.

·     Bronze Medallion.

·     Pool Lifeguard.

·     Oxygen Resuscitation.

Performance Evaluation:

An employee performance enhancement program rewards quality service.

Position description review will be conducted annually at the end of school term 4.

·     Current Resuscitation certificate

·     Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety and AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Pre-School Aquatics

·     Current Working with Children Ochre Card
