Due to continued growth, we’re seeking an experienced Accounts Officer / Assistant Accountant to join our finance team based in Bella Vista.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role will support the day-to-day financial operations of RCG, with a strong focus on accounts payable, payroll, job costing and general financial administration.

You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller, Project Managers, Contract Administrators and external stakeholders to ensure financial information is accurate, payments and payroll are processed efficiently, and project costs are appropriately recorded and monitored.

This is a hands-on role within a growing business, with the opportunity to take ownership of key financial processes and develop your accounting experience as RCG continues to grow.

As an Accounts Officer / Assistant Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

Accounts Payable & Financial Administration

• Manage supplier invoices and subcontractor payments, including weekly and month-end payment runs
• Review, process and accurately code invoices, ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained
• Maintain accurate accounts payable records and resolve supplier and subcontractor payment queries
• Process bank reconciliations and assist with maintaining the general ledger
• Maintain records relating to retentions, bank guarantees, surety bonds and contract payments
• Assist with BAS, IAS and GST-related payments and compliance requirements
• Assist with year-end financial preparation and audit requirements
• Maintain accurate financial documentation and records for compliance, insurance and financial audits

Payroll & Compliance

• Manage the end-to-end weekly payroll process for employees
• Process superannuation, PAYG and payroll tax obligations
• Ensure payroll records are accurate, up to date and maintained confidentially
• Support compliance with Fair Work requirements and applicable construction awards
• Assist with maintaining employee financial and payroll records
• Respond to payroll queries and provide support to employees as required

Construction Job Costing

• Maintain project and job costing systems, ensuring costs are accurately allocated to the relevant projects
• Monitor project financial information and identify discrepancies or issues
• Assist with tracking project costs, subcontractor payments and retentions
• Provide Project Managers and Contract Administrators with project-related financial information as required
• Support the Financial Controller with project financial reporting and analysis

Systems & Process Improvement

• Maintain accurate information across accounting and financial systems
• Assist with the ongoing improvement of financial processes and internal controls
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and financial administration
• Provide general financial and administrative support to the Financial Controller and wider business as required

What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

• Previous experience in an accounts, finance or accounting role
• Experience within the construction industry is highly regarded
• Strong experience across accounts payable and payroll
• A sound understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Experience with job costing, subcontractor payments and retentions will be highly regarded
• Experience with accounting or ERP systems, with Premier, Cheops or Jobpac experience highly desirable
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
• The ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively as part of a team
• Strong communication skills and the ability to professionally liaise with employees, suppliers, subcontractors and other stakeholders
• A proactive, adaptable and positive “can-do” attitude
• Strong problem-solving skills and a solutions-focused approach
• A high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality
• A genuine interest in improving processes and supporting the continued growth of the business
• Relevant qualifications in Accounting, Business or a related discipline are highly regarded but not essential
