Description

What Drives Us

Rivergum has evolved from traditional homebuilding into a creator of smart, sustainable medium-density communities. With a strong development pipeline and a team of exceptional professionals, we’re shaping Adelaide’s future with quality, insight and purpose.

Proudly South Australian for more than 33 years, we’re recognised among InDaily’s Top 52 Businesses (2025) and ranked No. 2 HIA Residential Builder in South Australia and No. 4 nationally. We’ve moved into our new Bowden office, a space designed to spark creativity, inspiration and collaboration.

Our values Fun, Teamwork, Integrity, Great Ideas and Own It guide everything we do.

What Success Looks Like

You will lead Rivergum’s WHS function, driving safety performance, compliance and continuous improvement across our construction and corporate teams. Working closely with operational leaders, you’ll coordinate contractor management, site inspections, incident investigations, return-to-work programs and WHS reporting, while helping embed a strong, practical safety culture across the business.

Is This You?

You may already be an experienced WHS professional, or you may be a construction leader with strong site credibility, sound safety judgement and a clear commitment to continuing to build your WHS capability. You understand construction because you’ve lived it, and you recognise that effective safety leadership requires more than site experience alone. You know the challenges of managing subcontractors, coordinating trades, balancing competing priorities and delivering projects safely, and you’re ready to apply that practical knowledge with the discipline, curiosity and professional standards required to influence safety outcomes across the business.

You’ll Bring:

  • Experience leading construction teams, site operations or WHS functions within the construction, residential building or broader built-environment sector.
  • A genuine passion for workplace health, safety and continuous improvement, with a desire to positively influence safety culture.
  • Diploma, Bachelor or Certificate IV qualification in Work Health and Safety (or a willingness to further develop your formal WHS qualifications).
  • Sound understanding of construction risks, contractor management, hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA), Model WHS Regulations and relevant Codes of Practice, or the capability and enthusiasm to quickly develop this expertise.
  • Experience conducting site inspections, reviewing safe work practices and engaging with teams to improve safety outcomes.
  • Exposure to incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes, ideally through ReturnToWorkSA, or a willingness to undertake training in this area.
  • The confidence to influence, coach and build credibility with stakeholders from site crews through to senior leaders.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail and disciplined documentation practices.
  • Experience using the WORX platform or similar WHS management systems is highly regarded.
  • Experience in fleet management is desirable but not essential.
  • Integrity, resilience and a practical, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Construction Induction White Card.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence (car and fuel card provided).

Why You’ll Love It Here

At Rivergum, you’ll have the opportunity to shape safety outcomes across the business, partnering with leaders and site teams to drive a strong, practical safety culture.

You’ll enjoy:

  • True autonomy and trust to lead WHS initiatives and drive improvement.
  • A supportive leadership team that values proactive safety and continuous learning.
  • The opportunity to influence safety culture across one of South Australia’s leading residential builders.
  • A dynamic mix of office, site and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Exposure to systems, coaching, investigations, training and organisational capability building.
  • A unique opportunity for a construction professional to transition into or further develop a career in WHS while remaining closely connected to site operations.
  • Ongoing professional development and exposure to all facets of contemporary WHS practice.
  • A role where your work directly protects people and improves business outcomes.
  • A collaborative team environment that values expertise, initiative and innovation.
