Environmental Superintendent

The Environmental Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the company fulfills all legal environmental obligations. This is achieved through sound knowledge and experience with environmental systems and working cooperatively with peers and site leadership under the guidance of the EAC manager.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of Environmental Advisors and Technicians.
  • Foster a positive environmental culture and collaborate across site to achieve compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs, including surface water, groundwater, air quality, noise, soil and regulated structures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, approvals, licence conditions and company standards.
  • Prepare regulatory reports, investigations and manage environmental compliance and improvement projects.
  • Maintain and enhance environmental management plans, procedures, documentation and the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Lead environmental audits, risk assessments and implement effective mitigation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training while promoting environmental awareness and accountability across the workforce.
  • Manage environmental incidents, investigations and corrective actions to minimise risk and prevent recurrence.
  • Support environmental approvals, community engagement, stakeholder relationships and technical advice across the business.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive environmental management experience, ideally within the mining or heavy industry sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation, compliance requirements and environmental management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental monitoring, sampling programs and QA/QC processes.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience preparing regulatory reports and managing environmental investigations.
  • Understanding of Indigenous land management practices and cultural heritage considerations will be highly regarded.
