Birriah Environmental Trainee
Our Environmental Traineeship offers the opportunity to work on Country, learn from experienced environmental professionals, and earn a nationally-recognised qualification. It’s a great fit for someone with an interest in science, nature or sustainability who’s ready to take the next step.
The Birriah Traineeship Program was created in close partnership with Birriah Elders and community leaders to open up real pathways into mining and professional careers for Birriah people. This new Environmental Traineeship role is part of that vision, helping local people get a foot in the door and build skills that last a lifetime.
As a trainee, you’ll:
- Work alongside and learn from a supportive team of environmental professionals
- Collect and record environmental data
- Spend time outdoors working on Country
- Study a nationally-recognised Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies, with study time built into your work week
- Be mentored by team members such as our Senior Indigenous Liaison Officer, and supported by your fellow Birriah Trainees
- Gain confidence, experience, and opportunities for the future
- This exciting role is reporting to the Environment Approvals and Community manager, and you will be part of an outstanding team of dynamic environment, approvals, and community professionals, committed to high performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- An absolute commitment to working safely, complying with all site safety standards and ensuring a safe and environmentally healthy workplace is essential.
- Under supervision, undertake monitoring and sampling for Air, Surface water, Groundwater Soils, Sediments, potable water and wastewater.
- Participation and input into the ongoing development and implementation of the site’s Environmental Management System, including the development of Work Instructions and Procedures and assisting with Plans
- Assist with reporting programs involving NGERS, NPI, weekly/monthly reporting, DES waste reporting and Permit Returns
- Participate in training and awareness programs, work area inspections, contractor management and managing (and investigating) environmental incidents
- Assisting with the coordinating and development of environmental projects
- Assist EAC department and others as required.
- Learning and growing with our team, sharing your ideas and being part of creating innovative solutions to complex issues
