Our mission is to improve the lives of people with renal failure, reunite families and reduce the impact of kidney disease in our communities. We are run by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people and work to provide culturally appropriate health, aged care and general support services in regional and remote communities, helping people to get home to country and family.

About the Role

The Social Enterprise Manager provides strategic and operational oversight of Purple House’s social enterprise and community space activities. The position is responsible for ensuring activities are well managed, financially sustainable, culturally safe, community-informed and aligned with the Purple House strategic plan, organisational values and the vision and priorities of relevant knowledge holders and communities.

The role provides leadership, mentoring and guidance to the Bush Balm and Purple Shed Coordinators, supporting them to effectively manage their respective areas and develop their teams. The role provides oversight of budgets, business and program development, risk, quality, stakeholder relationships and strategic opportunities, while enabling the Coordinators to retain appropriate responsibility for day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across Bush Balm and the Purple Shed, ensuring activities contribute to the objectives and priorities of the Purple House strategic plan.
  • Work with the Bush Balm and Purple Shed Coordinators to develop, implement and review annual work plans, priorities and development opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of sustainable business models and opportunities that balance financial viability with Purple House’s social outcomes objectives.
  • Ensure development opportunities are informed by meaningful engagement with knowledge holders and stakeholders and are consistent with Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP) protocols and the vision for Bush Balm.
  • Monitor emerging opportunities, risks and challenges and provide informed recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Contribute to organisational planning, reporting and evaluation relating to social enterprise.
  • Provide effective line management, mentoring and professional support to the Bush Balm and Purple Shed Coordinators.
  • Develop and monitor budgets for the Social Enterprise Hub in collaboration with the Finance team.
  • Ensure Bush Balm and Purple Shed activities operate in accordance with relevant legislation, organisational policies, procedures and risk management requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments, incident reporting and risk mitigation processes are in place.
  • Support continuous improvement in systems, processes, quality and service delivery.
  • Identify, develop and facilitate strategic opportunities for events, activities, advocacy and partnerships that advance Purple House’s strategic objectives and strengthen its relationships with key stakeholders, in collaboration with the Communications and Engagement team.
  • Other duties as required within trained capability and classification.

Essential

  • Relevant qualifications in community development, social enterprise, management or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs, social enterprises or comparable activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple areas of responsibility.
  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets and managing resources responsibly.
  • Strong project management and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build respectful and effective relationships with staff, stakeholders, community and external partners.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
  • Understanding of the importance of Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience developing partnerships and funding opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and make decisions within delegated authority.

Highly Desirable

  • Strong community development background with minimum 5 years’ experience in the community-controlled sector.
