Description

About the Role

PSD Energy is seeking an experienced and technically strong Senior Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of major renewable energy, substation, and infrastructure projects across Australia.

This role will see you taking a lead role across the full commissioning lifecycle, from Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) through to Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), energisation, fault finding, handover, and ongoing technical support. You will be responsible for ensuring systems and equipment are installed, tested, commissioned, and operating in line with design specifications, regulatory requirements, project standards, and safety expectations.

Working across substations, solar farms, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), protection and control systems, primary plant, and HV equipment, you will provide expert commissioning support while also guiding engineers, coordinating site activities, managing documentation, and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.

This is a hands-on senior role suited to someone who can work independently in HV testing environments, lead commissioning outcomes, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and support the successful delivery of high-quality energy projects.

Responsibilities

As Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading commissioning activities across renewable energy, substation, and infrastructure projects
  • Conducting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of control and protection panels, ICAP systems, and IEC 61850 systems
  • Performing site-based commissioning of protection and control systems, SCADA systems, communications, and primary electrical plant
  • Conducting HV testing of plant and equipment and providing expert technical advice to support safe and reliable operation
  • Developing, reviewing, and implementing commissioning plans, procedures, test documentation, and project-specific commissioning methodologies
  • Carrying out Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), energisation support, functional testing, I/O checks, sequence testing, communication verification, and fault finding
  • Testing and commissioning systems including protection schemes, control systems, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, transformers, switchgear, cables, and associated substation equipment
  • Reading, interpreting, and signing off test results and customer HV test reports
  • Identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues during FAT, SAT, and live site commissioning
  • Managing commissioning documentation, test records, drawing control processes, and project handover information
  • Controlling the flow of technical information between PSD Energy, clients, suppliers, contractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Supporting project managers to ensure commissioning activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed standards, budgets, and schedules
  • Monitoring work team performance against agreed project requirements, KPIs, and delivery expectations
  • Coordinating internal and external resources to ensure cost-effective and timely completion of commissioning works
  • Providing leadership, supervision, communication, and technical guidance to engineers, trainee engineers, contractors, and service providers
  • Supporting the design, modification, refurbishment, and implementation of protection and control schemes where required
  • Maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring agreed services are delivered to a high standard
  • Supporting maintenance, refurbishment, and fault-finding activities on existing installations
  • Ensuring HV testing equipment is maintained, used correctly, and operated in line with safety procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS, QMS, EMS, statutory, regulatory, and project-specific requirements
  • Promoting a strong safety culture, identifying and reporting hazards, participating in audits, and supporting incident investigations where required
  • Working away from home and travelling to project sites as required

Skills & Experience

You will bring:

  • 5+ years’ hands-on commissioning and HV testing experience within energy, utilities, renewables, substations, or infrastructure
  • Proven experience commissioning substations, solar farms, BESS, and/or power generation assets
  • Strong knowledge of protection and control systems, secondary systems, primary plant, operations, and technical systems for substations and power generators
  • Experience with FAT, SAT, energisation, live site commissioning, and HV testing environments
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 systems, ICAP systems, SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, communications, and control systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, protection schemes, testing methodologies, commissioning processes, and HV testing procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, test procedures, design documentation, and technical specifications
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, diagnostic, and fault-finding capability
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and signing off commissioning documentation and customer HV test reports
  • Knowledge of WHS, QA, environmental management systems, relevant standards, codes of practice, and legislative requirements
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and customer service skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate teams, supervise contractors, and support junior or trainee engineers
  • Strong planning, organisational, documentation, and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in high-risk HV testing and commissioning environments
  • A practical, delivery-focused approach with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance
