We are currently seeking a Senior SMSF Accountant to join our team in our Toowoomba or Stanthorpe office. We are also open to Hybrid working options for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • The SMSF Accountant is responsible for managing the delivery of SMSF accounting, compliance, and reporting services under the direction and supervision of the Head of Service Offering. The role ensures a client-centric approach where expectations are met, deadlines are achieved, and advice is delivered clearly and accurately.
  • SMSF Compliance & Reporting – Prepare and review SMSF financial statements, tax returns, BAS/IAS, TBARs, and supporting workpapers, ensuring compliance with ATO and SIS Act requirements and timely lodgment
  • Reconciliations & Audit – Reconcile investment portfolios, bank accounts, and member balances within Class Super/BGL360; liaise with auditors to support efficient annual audits
  • Complex Fund Management – Manage SMSFs with pension and accumulation members, related party investments, limited recourse borrowing arrangements (LRBAs), and complex fund structures while ensuring ongoing compliance
  • Client Strategy & Collaboration – Work closely with clients, financial planners, internal stakeholders and advisors to identify opportunities relating to contributions, pensions, estate planning, and tax-effective superannuation strategies
  • Technical Support & Improvement – Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SMSF legislation and ATO requirements, provide technical guidance to team members, and contribute to process improvements and workflow efficiencies
  • Client Service & Relationship Management – Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication, proactive support, and high-quality service delivery
  • Workflow & Deadline Management – Monitor lodgment deadlines, prioritise workloads effectively, and ensure all compliance obligations are completed accurately and on time

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

  • Qualifications & Experience – Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or related discipline; CA/CPA qualified or currently studying; minimum 3+ years’ experience within public practice and SMSF accounting/compliance
  • Technical Skills – Strong understanding of SMSF legislation, SIS Act compliance, pension reporting, and Australian taxation requirements; proficiency in Class Super, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented – Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail
  • Communication & Teamwork – Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, advisors, auditors, and internal stakeholder
  • Time Management & Accountability – Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritise competing tasks, and work autonomously within a fast-paced environment
