Description

About us:

pay.com.au is one of Australia’s fastest-growing technology scale-ups, trusted by businesses across the country. Since 2019, we’ve been transforming business payments by enabling companies from sole traders to large enterprises to pay by credit card and earn rewards on every transaction.

We’re now taking that same idea to the US, under our PayRewards brand. Australian company, American product: US businesses pay their vendors and bills by card and earn rewards on money they were already spending including points that move into airline programs. Invoices and bills that never earned anything before now do.

We’re still early days in the US, which is exactly what makes it exciting. This year is about bringing a lot more American small businesses onto the platform, cutting what it costs to win each one down to a fraction of what it is today, and turning rewards into the reason they stick around.

Roles like this one sit in Melbourne, embedded in our Australian team working directly with the US CEO to help build what’s next, not just deliver it afterwards.  At pay.com.au & PayRewards, you’ll join a fast-growing team shaping the future of B2B payments across both businesses.

Why join us?

  • Be part of an exciting Tech Scale-up, with teams across Australia and the USA.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements and a great work-life balance.
  • Awarded 2025 People’s Choice Award winner at the Finder Innovation Awards, Finalist for FinTech Organisation of the Year at the 2025 FinTech Australia Finnies, Number 1 on the Smart50 list 2024, Top 3 Deloitte Tech Fast 50 & Victoria State Champion!
  • Grow your career in a culture that values creativity, innovation, and collaboration with access to learning budgets to accelerate your career.
  • Our new Pay HQ in Windsor brings together great coffee, collaborative spaces, and the kind of energy that makes doing your best work easy.

Product Manager – Payments

The US Product Squad sits in Melbourne and builds for America. Same office, same standups, same great coffee.  You’ll own the core payment components of PayRewards: Today that means how money comes in, how it gets to the vendor, and everything a customer sees, chooses and pays for in between. Tomorrow it means whatever a US business needs to move money, run its finances and get rewarded for it. The person who decides what the best B2B payment experience in the US looks like, and builds it.

Responsibilities

  • The money in. Card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and ACH funding, bank verification, and what happens when a payment declines or fails. Success rates and failure reasons are your numbers, and you know them before anyone asks.
  • The money out. ACH, domestic wire and check disbursement to vendors. Speed, reliability and payment status, so customers always know where their money is and vendors get paid first time.
  • The experience in between. Payee setup, payment creation, approvals, multi-user and multi-business. The flows customers touch every time they pay a bill. You make them faster, clearer and harder to get wrong, and you hold the bar on craft, not just function.
  • Fees and rewards at checkout. The service fee, the Core and Plus earn rates, and the choice a customer makes on every payment. You own how that choice is presented and how it lands commercially.
  • The partner stack underneath. Whatever integration connects next, and the processing, bank verification and payment partners beneath it. You work with engineering and risk to keep it healthy and to know when a partner is the bottleneck.
  • What comes next. The core is the starting point, not the job. You’ll shape and build the next generation of payment products that help US businesses run their finances and operations more efficiently, and earn while they do it. If it moves money for a business and can earn a point, it’s in your remit.
  • The roadmap. You decide which piece moves the business number next, backed by customer conversations, funnel data and your own analysis.

About You

We want an exceptional individual contributor to own payment experiences for the US business, all of them.

  • You’ve owned a payments product end to end, from funding through to disbursement, with reconciliation and failure handling included. You can explain exactly what happens to a dollar between a customer’s card and their vendor’s bank account.
  • You’ve rebuilt something core, not just shipped features on top of it. We’ll ask you to walk us through one: what was broken, what you changed, the metric it moved.
  • You have product taste. You can look at a payment flow and see where it’s slow, ambiguous or asking too much of the customer, and you can show us flows you’ve made better.
  • You’ve taken a payment product from nothing to live: found the customer need, made the build, buy or partner call, got it through risk and compliance, and shipped it. You can tell us what you’d do differently.
  • You pull your own numbers and build your own funnels. You don’t wait on an analyst to tell you whether something worked.
  • You’re comfortable in the technical detail: APIs, payment states, webhooks, third-party integrations. Engineers trust your judgement on trade-offs.
  • You’re AI native. Show us how you use it to do product work faster and better, and one thing you changed about how a team operates because of it.
  • You’ve built in a scaling company where the product was still being defined, and you were one of the people defining it.

Strong plus

  • US rails: card processing, ACH, wires, checks, or US accounting integrations. If you’ve done payments deeply in another market, we’ll back you to learn the US specifics fast.
  • Depth in a payments domain adjacent to bill pay, and a view on where B2B payments is heading.
  • Experience in a regulated domain where the cost of getting it wrong was real.
  • You’ve worked across time zones and are comfortable saying no to work people are attached to.

We know not everyone will meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If you’re excited about the role and believe you can make an impact, we’re keen to hear from you.
