Summary:

Tjuntjuntjara is a small, remote Aboriginal community located on the Spinifex Lands in the Western Desert region of Western Australia. Within this area, Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) is an Aboriginal corporation with responsibility for managing the essential and community services in the community. This includes, but is not limited to, the Community Store, Community Resource Centre, a Women’s Centre, Indigenous Sport and Recreation program, and Environmental Health program, municipal services (airstrip, tip, road maintenance, water, power, sewerage), mechanics workshop, the Community Development Program and Spinifex Health Service’s (including Youth and Home and Community Care programs). Tjuntjuntjara is the main population Centre for the Spinifex Lands, over 55,000 sq. kms of Native Title area in the Great Victoria Desert region of Western Australia. 

Role

Reporting to the Manager, the Women’s and Family Centre Co-Ordinator (PTAC) is responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of Women’s, Children and Family based programs in the Tjuntjuntjara community. The primary aims are to provide a safe and welcoming space for Women, Children and their families to gather, meet and participate in a range of activities relating to the relevant program funding. This includes early learning for young children (pre-school) and their families, empowering parents and carers to engage in their children’s education, including planning and decision making, building knowledge, confidence, and social awareness required for a healthy transition to school engagement and into adulthood.

Focus will be on those parents who have children that are at risk of becoming disengaged from mainstream schooling in Tjuntjuntjara or are already disengaged from schooling. Further, parents who are struggling to cope and manage the basic requirements due to lack of social support, drugs and alcohol, family and domestic violence, lack of education, poverty, or other factors.

Working collaboratively with other organisations and service providers in Tjuntjuntjara, the Women’s & Family Centre Co-Ordinator may also be engaged to plan and facilitate cohesive, well-structured shared program activities that promote employment opportunities for Women in community and may engage other programs to facilitate learning sessions that support the empowerment of Women and Families.

Duties

Ensure the smooth operation of the Women’s and Family Centre

  • The Women’s and Family Centre Co-Ordinator is responsible for managing the centres budgets and program delivery including preparing for grants and regular reporting, in collaboration with the Manager.
  • Implement and foster participation in a range of Women and Family focused activities,prioritising parent and student engagement, early childhood development and more broadly health, wellbeing, life-skills, community connection and resilience building with Women and Families in the Tjuntjuntjara Community
  • Ensure alignment of activities with Women’s and Family Centre project and contractual funding
  • Provide advocacy and referral pathways for Women and Families for health and well-being support, counselling and treatment (when necessary) by appropriate primary and allied health care specialists in community or externally.
  • Develop and lead (when appropriate) case plans for Women young children and Families where risk has been identified, in collaboration with the Manager and other relevant services
  • Ensure accurate and timely case notes and records are kept.
  • Collect data which supports end of month reporting, including understanding Project KPI’s and required data Prepare and complete monthly report to Manager that highlights successes, risks and progress against KPI’s Consult with women on issues related to the Women’s & Family Centre and supporting and encouraging women to take leadership roles in governance.
  •  Maintain the Women’s Committee to coordinate clear information exchange and to inform you on program development, activities, and projects. Take minutesof meetings and follow-up on meeting decisions and directions.
  • Increase community awareness and support for services relating to Parent and Student engagement and Early Childhood development, and other projects that relate to the Women’s and Family Centre.
  • On-going commitment to care and nourishment of Women, Children and Families of the Tjuntjuntjara Community

Build exceptional relationships with Agencies

  • Working closely with the Manager, meet regularly (via MS teams) with all funding agencies to ensure and report on program progress and adhere to compliance.
  • Complete quarterly reporting and associated acquittals on contracts in collaboration with the Manager.

Human Resources

  • Lead, support and supervise casual staff, ensuring appropriate professional HR support and processes.
  • Ensure staff development/training opportunities are identified.
  • Collaborate with Tjuntjuntjara RAES program to prioritise employment opportunities for Community Members
  • Mentor and develop the skill base of Community Members and other Aboriginal staff and provide sound and consistent mentoring support to CRC employee’s

 

Work Health & Safety/Risk Management

  • Exercise a duty of care to work in a safe and efficient manner, having regard to your own safety and that of other workers and clients. Adhere to all workplace safety policies and processes.
  • Initiate effective boundaries with children and young people and in the community
  • Ensure Contractors comply with the Corporation’s WHS and Risk procedures when in Community

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Ability to oversee the Women’s and Family Centre with limited supervision, and as part of a team.
  • A minimum of three years full-time experience in a similar role.
  • Qualifications in Early Education, Community Development or Community Services highly regarded
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills.
  • Experience working with people who may be heightened or dysregulated.
  • Capacity and desire to work alongside people whilst actively leading and engaging in activities
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Strong demonstrated understanding of the Program Contracts, reporting and financial acquittals.
  • Ability to work within and understand budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage grants and budgets in a not-for-profit environment
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing programs in a not-for-profit environment
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships and partnerships with key external stakeholders, including funding agencies
  • Experience using SharePoint and other Microsoft based programs

 

The salary range offered is between $93,090.08 plus site loading – $99,788,72 plus site loading depending on skills and experience per annum plus superannuation. As a not-for-profit, PTAC offers salary packaging, which can boost your take-home pay by reducing taxable income.
