Description

Tjuntjuntjara is a small, remote Aboriginal community located on the Spinifex Lands in the Western Desert region of Western Australia. Within this area, Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) is an Aboriginal corporation with responsibility for managing the essential and community services in the community. This includes, but is not limited to, the Community Store, Community Resource Centre, a Women’s Centre, Indigenous Sport and Recreation program, an Environmental Health program, municipal services (airstrip, tip, road maintenance, water, power, sewerage), mechanics workshop, community development including Youth and kids groups and Spinifex Health Clinic and Home and Community Care programs. Tjuntjuntjara is the main population Centre for the Spinifex Lands, over 55,000 sq. kms of Native Title area in the Great Victoria Desert region of Western Australia.

Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable Remote Area Nurse (RAN) to join our team. This busy and rewarding role has responsibility for the provision of health care in the areas of child and family health, sexual health, chronic disease, aged care and mental health in the community, as well as providing emergency care and RAN leave relief as required. Aboriginal Health Practitioners and trainee Aboriginal Health Workers support clinic staff. The Spinifex Health Service provides GP services both within community and off- site. When the GP is not in residence, the RANs are the senior clinicians in community and work as a collaborative team.

You will be required to:

• Deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services, including health assessments, developmental checks, and follow-up of GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements (TCA).

• Provide health education to both individuals and the broader community, promoting disease prevention and supporting clients to understand and manage their health conditions and treatment plans.

• Collaborate closely with allied health professionals and multidisciplinary teams to ensure deliver of evidence-based, contemporary care.

• Undertake clinical duties across all areas of the health service, within scope of practice and competency, as directed. This may include responsibilities in:

○ General clinic management

○ Emergency care and patient stabilisation (including coordination of medical evacuations)

○ Child and family health

○ Antenatal care

○ Sexual health services

○ Mental health support

○ Chronic disease management

• Preventive health screening and community health programs

• Deliver palliative care services as required, ensuring compassionate, patient-centred support.

• Ensure compliance with all organisational policies, procedures, and clinical governance requirements.

• Ensure all practices comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and promote a safe working environment.

• Utilise the SHS Clinical Information System (Communicare) for the recording of all client health information, including recalls, referrals and communication.

• Source and/or develop appropriate, culturally safe and innovative health education/promotion resources to improve health literacy.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Current AHPRA registration and annual practicing certificate as a Registered Nurse.

• A minimum of three years full-time broad-based nursing experience, including A&E experience

• Previous remote / Aboriginal nursing experience

• Completion / currency (as required) of REC, BLS/ALS, MEC pharmacotherapy courses

• Immunisation endorsed (or willing to obtain)

• Familiarity with the CARPA Manual and the Women’s Business Manual.

• Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, the principles of Primary Health Care and relevant legislation governing work practice.

• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based practice, research, education, and professional development.

• Proven ability to be self-directed, self-motivated as well as effectively leading a team.

• High level of interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

• Demonstrated understanding of Medicare Benefits Schedule as it applies to primary health care.

• Current Advanced Life Support (ALS1) certificate (or ability to obtain before employment commences).

• Demonstrated commitment to professional self-care.

The salary range offered is between $128,122.95 – $133,190.40 per annum plus site loading depending on skills and experience plus superannuation. As a not-for-profit, PTAC offers salary packaging, which can boost your take-home pay by reducing taxable income. Plus 6 weeks annual leave per annum, paid rostered leave as well as onsite accommodation.

Usual site roster is 8 weeks in community and 2 weeks out of community with travel related expenses due to roster covered.
