Construction Director – Utility-Scale BESS

Pacific Green is seeking an experienced Construction Director to lead the delivery of a major two-stage battery energy storage system project in regional Victoria.
This is a senior owner-side role with accountability for the project’s construction strategy, budget, programme, contracts and overall execution. Working across the development and delivery teams, you will become involved before financial close to identify construction risks, support contract finalisation and ensure the project is ready to move successfully into execution.
Following financial close, you will lead the project through construction, grid connection, commissioning, completion and handover.
The role
As Construction Director, you will:
- Take overall responsibility for construction delivery, including safety, quality, cost, programme and performance.
- Support late-stage development, constructability reviews, risk identification and readiness for financial close.
- Lead the transition from development into construction and establish the owner-side project delivery structure.
- Manage the BOP/EPC contractor, battery integrator, OEMs, network service provider, consultants and other delivery partners.
- Coordinate contractual, technical and programme interfaces across split delivery packages.
- Oversee project budgets, forecasts, payment claims, variations, extensions of time and contractor claims.
- Establish and maintain the integrated construction and commissioning programme.
- Lead project governance and reporting to senior management, investors, lenders and other project stakeholders.
- Maintain owner-level oversight of HSE, environmental, quality and regulatory compliance.
- Manage relationships with landowners, local communities, government bodies and relevant authorities.
- Oversee grid-connection activities, testing, commissioning, practical completion and operational handover.
- Build and lead a suitably qualified project team, including commercial, contracts, engineering, project-controls and site-based resources.
- Identify emerging delivery risks and implement practical recovery or mitigation strategies.
About you
You will bring:
- Significant experience leading the construction and delivery of major energy or infrastructure projects in Australia.
- Demonstrated accountability for project budgets, programmes, contractors and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
- Experience working on utility-scale BESS, renewable-energy, transmission or comparable power infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of EPC, BOP, OEM supply and other major construction contracts.
- Experience managing contractor claims, variations, delays, commercial risk and contractual interfaces.
- An understanding of Australian electricity-market, grid-connection and commissioning processes.
- Experience working with investors, lenders, technical advisers, regulators and senior governance forums.
- The ability to operate effectively in an owner-side environment and make informed project-level decisions.
- Strong leadership, commercial judgement and stakeholder-management skills.
- A relevant qualification in engineering, construction, project management or a related discipline.
Direct utility-scale BESS delivery experience will be highly regarded. However, candidates with substantial owner-side delivery experience across large-scale wind, solar, transmission or other complex power projects are also encouraged to apply.
