About OzHarvest:

OzHarvest is a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to ‘Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need. Through our education programs and our advocacy work, we hope to inspire others to change their behaviour and help reach the national target of halving food waste by 2030.

About the role:

We’re currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Kitchen Hand, working across both our headquarters in Alexandria and the Refettorio, our social-impact restaurant in Surry Hills. In this role, you will perform general cleaning duties within the kitchen, food preparation area and scullery, including cleaning cooking equipment and utensils, and assists with basic food preparation.

The role is based in the kitchen, operating the dishwasher, carrying out general cleaning duties,

assisting with the packaging and labelling of food, and undertaking general pantry duties such as

receiving, storing and rotating stock safely on site.

This is a casual role.

Your Responsibilities:

  • General cleaning duties within the kitchen, food preparation area and scullery, including
  • cleaning cooking equipment and utensils
  • Dishwashing and other general cleaning duties as required
  • Assisting with basic food preparation (when required)
  • General pantry duties, including receiving, storing and rotating kitchen stock
  • Assisting with packaging and labelling of meals
  • Washing and drying apron and linen
  • Other general duties as required from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Kitchen/chef work experience
  • Food Handling & Safety trained
  • Current driver’s license

Personal Abilities and Aptitudes:

  • Strong communications skills and the ability to build relationships with internal staff members
  • Excellent attention to detail with reporting and a strong customer service approach when
  • talking face to face with teams
  • A strong commitment and enthusiasm toward the purpose of OzHarvest
  • Energetic, positive and proactive approach to life
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a dedicated team
