Cultural Collections Assistant 2027

About the Role

This role supports the work of the College Archivist and may include working with heritage materials such as items, photographs, documents, furniture and journal collections. The work of the archives also includes the Ormond College Art Collection — including portraits, heritage works and photographs — and the Brack Collection. Students working with the Archivist may record, collect and input data into the EMU database, as well as undertake maintenance tasks associated with the collections, including audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Auditing and stocktaking of items
  • Digitisation of images and photographs at the University of Melbourne Digitisation Centre
  • Maintenance of the art collection, including labelling, documenting and inventory
  • Auditing of document collections in the archive storeroom
  • Clean-up and sorting, where needed, of archive collections stored in the mezzanines
  • Other duties as directed by the Archivist

Eligibility

Applicants must be 18 years or older and 2nd or 3rd year Ormond residential student in 2027. 

Successful applicants will also need to hold or obtain a Working with Children Check (Employee) and complete a GBV declaration if successful. 

Students may hold a maximum of 2 casual Ormond roles at one time.
