Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY) is the operational company of the Yawuru Native Title Holders Aboriginal Corporation. Guided by our vision of “Making mabu liyan real for all, always”, we work to create social, cultural, environmental and economic sustainability for Yawuru people.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Country Manager to join our Environmental Services Unit and help deliver important conservation, land and sea management activities across Yawuru Country. Reporting to the IPA Coordinator, this role provides a unique opportunity to develop practical skills, formal qualifications and leadership capabilities while working alongside Yawuru Traditional Owners, rangers, researchers and conservation partners.

Position Summary

Field work and training across land and sea monitoring and management

• Cultural and natural resources covered by Yawuru Native Title are managed sustainably and the objectives within the Yawuru Women’s Country Manager Project are met and completed according to established timelines.
• Mutually beneficial partnerships are established and maintained with internal and external stakeholders enabling optimal outcomes for the Yawuru resources and community.
• Certification in Ecosystem Management whilst participating in conservation and land management activities with the Land and Sea team, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) joint management team, and research partners.
• other activities may include but not be limited to weed and feral animal control, flora and fauna surveys, fencing and habitat restoration, fire mitigation and suppression, water monitoring and boat surveys or patrols in the Marine Park.
• Participate in education and outreach activities within the local indigenous and non-indigenous community to promote the Country Managers work with particular focus on school and community.
• Leadership development through community engagement and public speaking events.

Essential Requirements

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person of Yawuru descent.
• Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Strong willingness to work in conservation and ecosystem management.
• Positive attitude, good communication skills and commitment to teamwork

Desirable Experience

• Knowledge of Yawuru culture and Country.
• Experience in land management activities such as weed control, revegetation or conservation work.
• Experience using tools and equipment relevant to field-based work.
• First Aid, White Card, TAFE qualifications or other relevant certifications.
• Experience in public speaking or developing communication materials
