Following extensive consultation and careful review, the No to Violence (NTV) Board has made the decision to establish Men’s Family Violence Services Australia (MFVSA) as a fully independent organisation dedicated to delivering specialist services that work directly with men to end their use of family violence.

MFVSA aims to become Australia’s leading specialist service delivery organisation focused on multi-session and place-based interventions for men who use family violence. MFVSA is positioned to deliver high-quality, evidence-informed services that support safer outcomes for victim survivors, families and communities.

Independent operations are expected to commence on or around 1 October 2026, subject to funding body approvals. About the role

Location: Flexible within Victoria as this role requires regular travel to regional courts

The Men’s Family Violence Counsellor (MFVC) reports to a Team Leader and is responsible for providing professional telephone and online counselling, advisory and support services. Our clients are mainly men who use family violence but also include family members / friends / practitioners who work in the Family Violence sector and are seeking secondary consultation and support.

MFVSA will deliver a range of counselling programs, which includes working within the Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) project and working closely with stakeholders (such as FASS Duty Lawyers). The role will provide non-legal advocacy and support to service users within a court environment. They will work with men affected by family violence (both perpetrators and victims), navigating state and federal based court system complexities to support the safety of service users and their children.

The role will also:

  • Provide support and non-legal advice to service users at the Circuit Family Law Court
  • Work with the Information Referral Officer to maximise referral opportunities
  • Ensure all service users understand their rights and responsibilities
  • Liaise with the family law court’s registry and security about implementing the safety plan for service users
  • Provide advocacy on behalf of service users with stakeholder organisations
  • Prepare reports for management regarding services provided

About you

To be successful in this role you will have, as a minimum:

  • A Tertiary qualification in Social Work or equivalent and experience in the family violence sector or closely related field
  • The ability to travel and work across Victorian court locations which are currently as follows and are subject to change: Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Sale/Morwell, Shepparton, Warrnambool, Melbourne, Dandenong
  • Proven experience in counselling and referral work in a community-based service
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • An understanding of integrated family violence service systems in Victoria
