About The Opportunity
This is a newly created senior leadership opportunity for an experienced ecology leader to shape the strategic direction, growth and performance of Niche’s Infrastructure, Transport & Utilities sector within the Ecology business. As Sector Lead, you will bring together market leadership, client relationship management, technical governance and commercial accountability to drive sustainable sector growth and excellence. You will play a key role in strengthening client partnerships, growing revenue and profitability, and building Niche’s reputation as a trusted ecology partner on complex
infrastructure, transport, water and energy projects across NSW. Working closely with the Ecology and Commercial teams, you will help identify new opportunities, guide sector priorities and support high-quality, ethical and compliant service delivery. This is a role for someone who wants to influence the market, support strong commercial outcomes and help shape how ecology is considered in major infrastructure decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead sector strategy in partnership with the Commercial team, aligned to Niche’s commercial strategy and strategic growth priorities.
- Drive sustainable business development by identifying priority markets, emerging trends, client needs and opportunities for growth across infrastructure, transport, water and energy.
- Build, manage and strengthen key client relationships, positioning Niche to win new and repeat work at the right value and margin.
- Lead proposal strategy and preparation for complex, high-profile tenders and pursuits.
- Provide strategic leadership and governance across complex project portfolios, supporting quality, consistency, risk management and strong client outcomes.
- Take commercial accountability for sector performance, including revenue, profitability, utilisation, forecasting, pricing discipline and margin management.
- Lead, mentor and develop a geographically dispersed ecology team, fostering collaboration, accountability, engagement and future capability.
- Champion safe, ethical and compliant work practices, modelling Niche’s values and supporting a healthy, environmentally and socially responsible workplace.
- Represent Niche as a visible and credible industry leader, using your professional
networks to strengthen market reputation and support growth.
About You
You are an established ecology or environmental consulting leader with deep expertise in at least one environmental sector and the confidence to operate at a senior, market-facing level. You combine strategic thinking, commercial judgement, technical credibility and people leadership, with a genuine motivation to shape better environmental outcomes through your work.
- Strong experience in NSW ecology or environmental consulting, ideally with exposure to
major infrastructure, transport, water or energy projects.
- Deep expertise in the relevant environmental sector, with the ability to interpret
and explain complex technical issues clearly to clients, stakeholders and
teams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategy, drive sector growth and contribute to strong commercial performance, including revenue and P&L outcomes.
- A strong track record delivering large, complex and high-value projects across a
diverse portfolio.
- Significant experience in stakeholder management, client relationship management and
business development, supported by established sector networks.
- Proven senior leadership capability, including leading, mentoring and developing
teams, coaching junior employees and motivating others to deliver high-quality
outcomes.
- A collaborative, values-led style and the organisational skills to work across
teams, balance priorities and deliver practical, high-quality outcomes.
