progressive Aboriginal Corporation that provides support to Aboriginal Communities of the Western Desert. In particular, NWWAR aims to deliver high quality services that meet the needs of these communities by supporting the transition of government services and programs to community control.
POSITION OVERVIEW –EMPLOYMENT CONSULTANT (ROVING)
The role of the Employment Consultant (Roving) supports job seekers across the region through individualised participation plans that connect them to local employment, education, and participation opportunities. Acting as a guide the Employment Consultant works with each Individual Participation Plan (IPP) that promotes choice, build on strengths and aspirations, and links participants with appropriate employers, services, and community supports.
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
NWWAR was incorporated in 2023 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation (NPNAC). NPNAC was incorporated in August 1985 under the Aboriginal Incorporations Act 1976 (Cth) before transitioning under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth). NPNAC began as an association of communities deemed to have been affected by the oil and gas mining operations at Mereenie and Palm Valley. NPNAC provided a growing income base for the Member Communities, stimulating job opportunities and venture activities for members, while actively supporting community development activities and infrastructure improvements in Member Communities.
Across its 40-year history, NPNAC has developed a portfolio of diverse investments and operated enterprises in a variety of industries, including accounting and business services, tourism and hospitality and retail. NPNAC’s core objective of supporting communities flows through to objectives of NWWAR being the delivery of high-quality services and support for communities in transitioning services from government-designed and delivered to community-controlled and governed.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for a self-motivated person with flexibility of approach and who wants to be part of the team working towards local community-led change. The incumbent will be required to perform responsibilities to a high standard, within agreed timeliness services within the RAES team.
REPORTS TO: RAES Manager
LOCATION: This role is based across our remote communities and will require an amount of travel to/from Alice Springs and between Papunya, Mount Liebig, Haasts Bluff and Kintore.
The Employer may require the Employee to perform her duties at various places of business/work sites in the Northern Territory and interstate or elsewhere. The Employer will provide to the Employee transport and/or accommodation as required if the Employee is required to working a location other than the Ngurratjuta Region.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full Time
WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities include, but are
not limited to:
- Strengthen relationships with local business and connection with Community Organisations and Community Members.
- Create employment opportunities for our clients.
- Deliver an individualised service to each participant.
- Work with each participant in a culturally appropriate strengths-based model to supports them to achieve their goals.
- Help to meet the compliance requirements associated with RAES.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
You will have an understanding that the administrative element of the job is crucial, and you’ll also have:
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge and appreciation of the cultural and social needs of First Nations peoples combined with continuing respect and support for First Nations cultural practices in dealing with community members and staff.
- Understanding of the barriers to employment and the effects of unemployment.
- A commitment to First Nations self-determination, community leadership and
empowerment.
- Experience working with and alongside First Nations communities creating strong, trusted relationships.
- Experience planning and implementing community engagement strategies.
Additionally, you will have:
- Demonstrated understanding of the case management and/or ECSN.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work, build rapport and maintain effective relationships with
clients, peers and relevant agencies from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to identify aspirations, motivation and increasing employment opportunities for clients.
- Ability to effectively manage time and workloads in line with the business priorities.
- Self-motivation, along with the ability to demonstrate high level of professionalism, compliance and attention to details.
- A good knowledge of Work, Health & Safety policies.
- Preferably, possess a broad knowledge of the Remote Australia Employment Program
