Melville Cares is looking for a passionate person to join our team as a part-time Compassionate Connectors Coordinator on a fixed-term 12-month contract. This is a unique opportunity to help grow and shape our Compassionate Connectors Program, connecting people living with serious illness to practical, social and community support when they need it most. You’ll be at the heart of the program, recruiting and supporting our wonderful Connectors, building relationships with community and healthcare organisations, and helping people feel connected, supported and less alone.
Melville Cares operates across two service areas: Melville Cares, covering the City of Melville and surrounding suburbs, and Western Suburbs Cares, covering Claremont and surrounding suburbs. This role will work across both catchment areas, connecting with local communities, organisations and healthcare providers.
What you’ll be doing
- Establish and coordinate the Compassionate Connectors Program for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Facilitate training sessions for new Connectors.
- Provide ongoing education, mentoring and support to Connectors.
- Ensuring there is appropriate risk cover and insurance for recruited Connectors
- Match Connectors with people referred to the program.
- Assess the suitability of people referred to the program and monitor their experience and engagement.
- Promote the program to community groups, community workers and healthcare providers.
- Deliver presentations and information sessions to community and other organisations.
- Support program evaluation and collect feedback from Connectors and supported participants.
- Attend fortnightly meetings with the Perron Institute project team.
- Prepare progress reports every four months.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in coordination, aged care, or community engagement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including developing and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders.
- Experience working with volunteers, community programs or community-based services.
- The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people and organisations.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable facilitating community education opportunities.
- A genuine passion for supporting people and strengthening community connections.
- Good IT skills and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- National Police Clearance (less than 3 months old) — this is mandatory for the role.
- Current ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence.
Desirable
- A tertiary qualification in health or community development
