The Role:
The Senior Manager, Medico-legal Advisory leads the Medico-Legal Support Services function within the Claims, Advisory & Education (CAE) division to provide expert medico-legal advice and guidance to members and the organisation across a broad range of ethical, regulatory, practice, and risk matters. The Medico-legal Advisory team supports our members in navigating complex medico-legal issues arising from clinical practice, professional conduct, patient interactions, and regulatory obligations.
The role is expected to evolve over time, with growing emphasis on the design and delivery of member-facing digital experiences and on operating effectively within a hybrid delivery model that blends direct advisory support with self-service, digital, and content-based channels. Candidates with current healthcare or health regulatory domain experience will be highly valued, as will experience in shaping digital member experiences and working across hybrid delivery models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set the strategic direction and service model for Medico-Legal Support, ensuring scalable, high-quality advice that supports member decision-making and risk prevention.
- Define service scope, boundaries, and quality standards for medico-legal advice, ensuring consistency, defensibility, and regulatory alignment.
- Oversee complex, high-risk medico-legal matters, including regulatory, complaint, and notification issues requiring senior oversight.
- In alignment with agreed Education and Risk Prevention priorities and processes, drive proactive risk prevention content and guidance materials , ensuring medico-legal insights, inform education and Member engagement strategies.
- Develop scalable advisory resources and content.
- Drive continuous improvement and change, evolving processes, systems, and ways of working to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Ensure alignment with Claims & Investigations, Education & Risk Prevention and Clinical Support Services, maintaining clear handoffs and consistent positions across advice and claims activity.
- Ensure medico-legal advice is accurate, timely and empathetic
- Help shape the evolving relationship between Medico-Legal Advisory and Clinical Advisory Services, Education, Advocacy and Member Experience identifying opportunities for closer integration, shared insight, and consistent positioning.
- Represent MDA National at relevant industry meetings, forums, and external working groups, maintaining current awareness of regulatory, professional, and sector developments and feeding insights back into advisory practice and risk prevention priorities.
- Lead, coach, and develop direct reports by setting clear expectations, providing regular constructive feedback, and conducting performance reviews to build capability, support growth, and ensure alignment with organisational priorities.
Technical Capabilities & Professional Experience:
- ·At least 10 years professional experience in a Medico-legal role.
- ·Strong knowledge and understanding of financial services and insurance, with medical indemnity experience essential.
- ·Effectively embed change initiatives across a team.
- ·Ability to clearly articulate and communicate complex issues and data to stakeholders at all levels.
- ·Proven project management skills across strategy and operations.
- · Experience in the design and delivery of digital member/customer experiences (e.g. digital content, self-service tools, online advisory or education platforms) is desirable.
- Experience operating within, or leading teams through, a hybrid delivery model (blending human advisory support with digital/self-service channels) is desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership of professional or advisory teams, with the ability to manage complex, high-risk matters requiring senior judgement.
- ·Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple functions and evolving organisational structures.
Formal Qualifications
- ·Degree qualified in Law desirable
