About the Role

McDermott Aviation is seeking a practical, hands-on Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Coordinator to manage the maintenance, tracking, repair and allocation of equipment that supports our helicopter operations.

This role is ideally suited to someone with a strong mechanical background who enjoys working with tools, equipment, fabrication and maintenance. Aviation experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who can inspect, repair, organise and maintain equipment while ensuring it is available when required by our maintenance and flight operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee routine inspections, servicing and repairs of powered and non-powered Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Maintain specialised helicopter support equipment including: rotor track and balance analysers, hydraulic test stands, aircraft maintenance stairs and platforms, engine removal trolleys, component stands, fixtures and dollies, general workshop and support equipment
  • Track and manage all GSE through the company’s online asset management system, ensuring equipment is appropriately recorded, inspected and maintained.
  • Schedule and allocate ground support equipment to technicians and flight crews to support daily operations and rapid response missions.
  • Perform basic mechanical and hydraulic repairs and coordinate more complex repairs when required.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Ensure all equipment complies with aviation safety requirements and workplace health and safety standards.
  • Remove unserviceable equipment from operation and coordinate repairs or replacement.
  • Build custom plywood shipping crates for aircraft components, tooling and GSE to ensure safe domestic and international transport.
  • Ensure shipped items are correctly secured and protected to prevent damage in transit.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports and equipment registers.

You are practical, organised and enjoy working with your hands. You take pride in maintaining equipment, solving mechanical problems and ensuring operational teams have the resources they need.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience working with mechanical, hydraulic, automotive, agricultural, heavy vehicle or industrial equipment.
  • Basic hydraulic repair and maintenance experience.
  • Good organisational and inventory management skills.
  • Basic computer skills for asset tracking and record keeping.
  • Basic woodworking skills, including measuring, cutting and assembling plywood shipping crates.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and work independently.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical, Diesel, Automotive, Fitting & Turning, Fabrication or similar.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience using workshop tools and equipment.
  • Forklift licence or willingness to obtain one.
