The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate to join our Tax team in Brisbane on a full-time basis.  

Working directly with our National Head of Tax, John Ioannou, you will be part of a respected practice advising private clients, family groups, closely held businesses and accounting firms on complex taxation matters. This role offers direct client exposure, hands-on mentoring and the opportunity to develop as a well-rounded tax advisor.   You can expect exposure to:

  • Strategic tax advisory work.
  • Tax structuring, business restructures and commercial transactions.
  • Private client and family group matters, including advising in relation to trusts and Division 7A.
  • Small business CGT concessions, asset protection and succession-related tax issues.
  • Duties and payroll tax matters.
  • Private ruling applications, objections, reviews, audits and regulator engagement.
  • State and Federal tax disputes including Tribunal or Court proceedings.

Working closely with a team of highly skilled lawyers, you will develop your technical expertise, commercial judgement and client relationships while taking on increased responsibility across matters.

You will also benefit from structured career progression and ongoing development through the Macpherson Kelley Business School.

 

About You

This role will suit a motivated lawyer who is looking to deepen their expertise in complex tax advisory and structuring matters. You will ideally have:

  • A minimum of three years PAE, ideally with a focus on tax law or related commercial advisory work.
  • Experience in areas such as tax structuring, trusts, companies, Division 7A, CGT concessions, duties, land tax or payroll tax.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with the team while working independently and taking ownership of your matters.
  • A commercial, client-focused approach.

Additional tax study through The Tax Institute, UNSW or another applied taxation program will be highly regarded.
