Description

Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (Laynha) is looking for a Payroll Support Officer to join our Finance team in a part-time capacity.

This is an important role supporting the accurate and timely delivery of our fortnightly payroll, while also helping improve the systems and processes that sit behind it.

Working closely with the Financial Controller, Finance team, managers and employees, you’ll be responsible for keeping payroll information accurate and up to date, ensuring statutory obligations are met, responding to payroll enquiries and helping us get the most out of our HR and payroll systems.

What you’ll do

  • Take a lead role in preparing and processing fortnightly payroll
  • Maintain accurate employee information, timesheets, allowances, deductions, tax and other payroll records
  • Review payroll inputs and variations and ensure changes are supported by appropriate documentation and approval
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and variance checks each pay cycle
  • Ensure superannuation and other statutory payroll obligations are met
  • Maintain accurate employee records and payroll documentation
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers in a timely and professional manner
  • Manage superannuation and Centrelink requests for information
  • Ensure employee training and compliance records are kept up to date
  • Assist with month-end, year-end and external audit activities
  • Maintain and improve payroll processes, documentation and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation within Employment Hero and streamline HR and payroll processes
  • Provide general finance support as required, including Xero, reconciliations and other Finance team activities

About you

You’re organised, reliable and comfortable working with numbers and confidential information. You understand that payroll needs to be accurate, timely and consistent, and you take pride in getting the details right.

You’ll bring:

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in a finance, payroll or accounting role
  • A Certificate in Bookkeeping, Accounting or higher qualification
  • Experience using Employment Hero or a similar HRIS/payroll system
  • Experience with Xero or similar cloud accounting software
  • Strong Excel skills, particularly for financial analysis and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • High personal integrity, reliability and commitment to confidentiality
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving
