Description

If you’re a hands-on maintenance professional who takes pride in keeping facilities safe, functional, and well maintained, this could be the opportunity you’re looking for. At Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (Laynha), you’ll help maintain essential housing, community facilities, and operational infrastructure across East Arnhem Land.

As a Homelands Maintenance Officer, you’ll coordinate repairs, solve maintenance issues, and oversee the upkeep of a diverse range of assets, including homeland housing, staff accommodation, training facilities, and operational buildings.

This role suits someone who enjoys variety, values quality workmanship, and wants to make a meaningful contribution to remote Yolŋu communities.

Why Join Laynha?

For more than 40 years, Laynha has worked alongside 30 homeland communities across East Arnhem Land, supporting people to live, work, and thrive on Country.

We deliver a wide range of essential services, including healthcare, aged care, housing, community services, employment, and land and sea management.

This is an opportunity to apply your trade, maintenance, or facilities management experience in a role where your work has a visible and lasting impact. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values collaboration, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

About You

You’re someone who enjoys working independently, solving practical problems, and ensuring assets are maintained to a high standard. You take ownership of your work, communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, and can confidently manage competing priorities across multiple locations. You understand the importance of preventative maintenance, risk management, and asset stewardship, and you’re equally comfortable undertaking repairs yourself or coordinating contractors to complete specialised work.

You’ll likely bring:

  • A trade qualification in construction, building maintenance, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in building maintenance, repairs, or facilities management
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and construction principles
  • Experience coordinating contractors and monitoring the quality of completed works
  • The ability to read and interpret quotes, scopes of work, and technical documentation
  • Working knowledge of relevant building regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience conducting inspections, audits, and asset assessments
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and data entry systems
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • You’ll also demonstrate respect for cultural diversity and a willingness to work collaboratively with Yolŋu communities and stakeholders across the region.

A current driver’s licence, Ochre Card, National Police Check, and relevant licences or certifications are required or must be obtained. Plant operator licences will be highly regarded.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll play a key role in maintaining Laynha’s housing, facilities, and infrastructure by:

  • Undertaking and coordinating repairs and maintenance of Laynha infrastructure across remote homelands, Yirrkala and Nhulunbuy
  • Conducting regular inspections of facilities, buildings, equipment, and assets
  • Performing annual building and asset audits and preparing asset condition reports
  • Monitoring contractors and ensuring maintenance works are completed to the required standards
  • Identifying maintenance risks and escalating issues where required
  • Maintaining electrical test and tag schedules and records
  • Supporting homeland housing maintenance projects and operational priorities
  • Ensuring maintenance activities are accurately recorded and allocated against relevant assets
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of asset management and maintenance systems

What We Offer

In return, you’ll receive:

  • A meaningful role that directly supports remote Yolŋu communities
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • A supportive and values-driven workplace culture
  • Competitive remuneration
  • Salary packaging benefits of up to $17,500 per annum
  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • Remote Living Allowance
  • The opportunity to travel throughout East Arnhem Land and work across diverse and unique locations
