Description

Go far with IOR

IOR might be the greatest Aussie success story you haven’t heard of… yet.

From humble roots in Eromanga, QLD, we’ve been fuelling the furthest corners of Australia for over 40 years. But we think the most exciting journey’s still on the horizon.

Join a hands-on role where you’ll help build, upgrade, and commission the mechanical infrastructure

that keeps IOR’s network running. As an in-Field Technician (Mechanical), you’ll work across fuel systems, tanks, piping, and associated equipment, contributing directly to the expansion and modernisation of our asset base. You’ll also provide essential mechanical maintenance and field support to keep operations moving. With regular travel across Australia and plenty of autonomy, this role suits a technically confident professional who thrives in dynamic, field-based environments

Your opportunity

This role offers the chance to play a hands‑on part in building and maintenance of critical fuel infrastructure. Working across underground fuel services, above-ground fuel storage tanks, pipework, pumps, and associated equipment, you’ll support projects ranging from new installations and refurbishments to asset replacement and compliance upgrades.

With regular travel to regional sites, you’ll combine technical expertise with practical problem-solving to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant outcomes.

You’ll get results by:

  • Delivering installations, upgrades, repairs, and expansions across underground fuel services, above-ground fuel tanks, fuel transfer pipework, pumps, dispensers, and associated infrastructure.
  • Performing testing and commissioning activities, including pressure testing, functional testing, commissioning documentation, and handovers.
  • Interpreting drawings and technical specifications to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with industry standards.
  • Conducting maintenance, repairs, inspections, and fault finding across fuel storage and distribution assets.
  • Supporting project delivery across new builds, refurbishments, tank replacements, and compliance-driven asset upgrades.
  • Providing field-based technical support while maintaining a strong focus on safety, environmental compliance, and quality outcomes.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring a solid mechanical trade background, strong installation and commissioning capability, and the confidence to diagnose and resolve issues in the field. Your ability to interpret technical documentation, communicate clearly, and work independently will set you up for success in remote and fast-paced environments. You’ll bring practical experience working with fuel infrastructure, particularly underground fuel services and above-ground storage tanks. Your knowledge of fuel systems, pipework, pumps, testing, and commissioning activities will enable you to deliver safe and compliant solutions across a range of projects. You will play a key role in delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you’ll also need:

  • Trade‑qualified Mechanical, Diesel, or Maintenance Fitter (or equivalent).
  • Strong mechanical installation, commissioning, and fault‑finding capability.
  • Confident interpreting drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with industrial or fuel‑related systems, including tanks and pumps.
  • Able to work independently in field environments with strong communication skills.
  • Desirable: forklift licence, confined space, working at heights, and petroleum industry knowledge.

Don’t tick all the boxes, but still think you’d be a great fit? Let’s talk – we can provide training for the right person.
