About the Program
inTouch is inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced professional women to join our Mentoring Program, supporting women from migrant and refugee backgrounds who have experienced family violence.
This program aims to strengthen participants’ confidence, skills, and employment readiness,
supporting their journey toward meaningful employment and long-term economic independence. Through a structured mentoring framework, mentors play a key role in supporting recovery, rebuilding self-esteem, and expanding professional networks.
The Role of a Mentor
Mentors will be matched with a mentee who is committed to her employment pathway. Over a six-month period, mentors will:
- Support mentees to identify strengths, set employment goals, and develop a pathway forward
- Share insights into Australian workplace culture, job search strategies, and career development
- Encourage confidence-building and professional growth
- Provide guidance in a respectful, culturally responsive, and non-judgmental manner
Time Commitment
- Induction: 2-hour session (End of May/Early June )
- Mentoring: 1–2 hours per fortnight (June – November), plus brief follow-up notes
- Evaluation: Participation in short surveys at key stages of the program
Support Provided
Mentors will receive:
- Program induction and ongoing guidance
- Access to program coordinators for support and debriefing
- Opportunities to connect with fellow mentors
- Access to wellbeing support if required
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Identify as a woman with at least five years’ experience in a professional or managerial
role in Australia
- Strong communication skills and intercultural awareness
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting women from migrant and refugee backgrounds
- Empathetic, respectful, and non-judgmental approach
- Ability to commit to the duration of the program
- Based in Melbourne or surrounding areas
- Willingness to obtain (or hold) a valid Working with Children Check and Police Check
Desirable:
- Previous mentoring experience
- Experience working with migrant/refugee communities or family violence contexts
- Strong ethical practice, including confidentiality and integrity
- Ability to speak a language other than English.
- Understanding of the Experts by Experience Framework and ability to apply its best practice
principles.

To support meaningful mentor matching, applicants are invited to indicate the mentee profile
number(s) they are most aligned to support based on their professional background, lived experience, language skills, or industry knowledge.
Mentee 1
Language: Bengali
Final year Bachelor of Psychology and Criminology student with previous
volunteer experience in courts, as well as experience in hospitality, security,
and customer service. Interested in building a career within the justice
sector.
Mentee 2
Language: Urdu
Background in administration and logistics, with qualifications in Computer and
Electronics Engineering and Childcare. Seeking guidance to strengthen
employment pathways and career direction in Australia.
Mentee 3
Language: Sinhalese
Currently completing a Master of Teaching with previous qualifications in
Languages and Education. Working part-time in retail and tutoring while
pursuing opportunities within the teaching sector.
Mentee 4
Language: Punjabi / Hindi
Background in Dietetics and Education with additional Australian qualifications
in Hospitality, Commercial Cookery, and Disability Support. Currently working
in aged care and exploring long-term career pathways.
Mentee 5
Language: Mandarin
Master of Business Analytics graduate seeking support to navigate professional
employment opportunities aligned with qualifications and career aspirations.
Mentee 6
Language: Bengali
Diploma-qualified in Information Technology and currently employed part-time in
retail. Interested in developing pathways toward stable employment within the
IT or related sectors.
Mentee 7
Language: Indonesian
Background in Education and Aged Care with parenting responsibilities currently
being managed through a parenting plan. Seeking support to strengthen
confidence, career direction, and employment readiness.
Mentee 8
Language: Urdu
Qualified in Food Science and Nutrition with current experience as an Inventory
Controller. Interested in transitioning into Quality Assurance and related
professional roles.
