inTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence (inTouch) seeks expressions of interest (EOI) from values driven, suitably skilled and committed people to join its Board.

About inTouch

inTouch is a leading, culturally responsive service supporting migrant and refugee women across Victoria. With over 40 years of experience and more than 30,000 women and children assisted, inTouch provides holistic support including case management, legal services, early intervention, recovery programs, and perpetrator interventions. The organisation is recognised for its specialist expertise, with a workforce comprised primarily of individuals from migrant and refugee backgrounds, representing over 20 countries. inTouch also delivers training, advocacy and policy leadership to strengthen the broader family violence sector.

The person we are looking for

InTouch is seeking to appoint 3 new Board members who uphold the values and vision of InTouch as captured in our strategic plan. More specifically, we are looking to strengthen the culturally diversity on our Board.  We are seeking applications from people with strong leadership skills and experience in not-for-profit organisations, and an understanding of or experience in the family violence sector program and policy context.  Prior experience on a not-for-profit Board and experience in social justice advocacy will be highly regarded.

Specific experience we are looking for

We are a skills-based Board, and are particularly seeking people with experience in the following areas:

  • Philanthropic fundraising
  • Marketing and communications
  • Finance (especially accreditation e.g., CA, CPA)
  • Legal & compliance

Responsibilities

  • Champion the rights and voices of migrant and refugee women experiencing family violence.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to support the achievement of inTouch’s purpose and objectives.
  • Provide insight and expertise to inform our understanding of service responses to family violence in diverse communities.
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of organisational strategies and policies.
  • Leverage government and community networks to advocate for policies and initiatives that benefit individuals, families and communities from multicultural communities.
  • Provide financial oversight and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with fellow board members, staff, and stakeholders to foster a culture of inclusivity, safety and accountability within the organisation.

Candidate requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in at least one of the specified areas.
  • Previous experience as a Board Director, preferably within the Not-for-Profit sector.
  • Strong commitment to the values and purpose of inTouch.

Board term

Directors are appointed for terms of up to three years and may be re-appointed. After serving three consecutive terms (9 years), a 12-month break is required before being eligible for re-appointment.

 

Remuneration

Board positions are voluntary. Directors may be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred while carrying out Board duties, subject to prior approval.

Time Commitment

The time commitment required of people interested in the InTouch Board positions is approximately 50 to 60 hours annually, comprising of:   

  • 8 meetings per year, usually in the afternoons and evenings, plus preparation time for the meetings.  Meetings are usually scheduled for 2 hours.
  • Participation in Board subcommittees or strategic initiatives.  This is optional, though we strongly encourage Board members to be on at least one sub-committee.  Subcommittee meetings are held for 1.5 to 2 hours, and usually meet around 4 to 6 times a year.
  • Out-of-session Board meetings, as necessary, from time-to-time.
