The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Certification Consultant to support the security assurance and authorisation of complex communications and information systems within a Defence capability environment. This role will suit a cyber security professional with strong experience in security assessment, risk management and compliance activities. Working within an integrated engineering and sustainment environment, you will provide specialist cyber security advice, conduct security assessments and support the ongoing protection of critical Defence capability systems. You will engage with a diverse range of technical and operational stakeholders while contributing to the delivery of secure, compliant and mission-ready communications capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct system security assessment and authorisation activities in accordance with Defence and Australian Government security frameworks.
  • Perform security reviews, audits and assurance activities to assess the effectiveness of implemented security controls.
  • Develop security assessment reports, risk assessments, authorisation artefacts and executive briefings.
  • Identify, analyse and evaluate cyber security vulnerabilities, risks and threats impacting systems and capability outcomes.
  • Assess system architectures and security services using structured threat modelling and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Support governance and assurance activities, including configuration change assessments and risk management processes.
  • Provide cyber security advice to project, engineering and sustainment stakeholders.
  • Review system security documentation, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with mandatory security requirements.
  • Build effective relationships with technical teams, industry partners and operational stakeholders.
  • Support capability delivery through practical and risk-based cyber security recommendations.

About You

  • Demonstrated qualifications and/or professional experience suitable for eligibility to obtain DCIAB-CSAA endorsement as a Cyber Security Assessor.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, IRAP or equivalent cyber security qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of cyber security assessment, authorisation, governance and compliance within complex ICT environments.
  • Knowledge or experience supporting communications technologies, including radio, satellite or Defence communications systems.
  • Experience assessing cyber security risks, vulnerabilities, security architectures and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of ICT infrastructure, networking, operating systems and security technologies.
  • Experience supporting Defence capability, C4ISR, communications or secure technology programs will be highly regarded.
  • Understanding of the One Defence Capability System and Defence capability lifecycle processes will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and influence stakeholders in complex environments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, ethical decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues and contributing to team capability development will be highly regarded.

Additional Information

  • Commencement: August 2026.
  • Location: Melbourne or Canberra. Working arrangement: Minimum 3 days per week onsite.
  • Security Clearance: Current NV1 security clearance required.
  • Australian Citizenship required.
  • This position may require access to export-controlled technology and materials. Candidates may be required to disclose dual citizenship and country of birth information as part of the engagement process. Eligibility to access controlled materials may be subject to additional assessment and approval requirements. Competitive market rates considered.
