Description

About the Role

HDS is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Finance Officer to join our finance team, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. This is a genuinely broad, commercially engaged role for someone with solid accounts payable and receivable experience who wants to widen their exposure across client invoicing, contractor payments, reporting, and general ledger support in a fast-paced logistics environment.

You’ll be well supported by the wider finance team, but this role is yours to own — and contractor management sits at its core. You’ll take ownership of contractor rates against agreements, resolve payment and rate queries directly with contractors, and work closely with our Operations team to land the right outcome for HDS. You’ll also work closely with the CFO, Financial Controller, clients, and auditors, with genuine room to grow the role as our business scales.

What You’ll Be Doing – This is one role spanning three connected areas of finance:

Accounts Payable & Contractor Management

  • Own the accuracy of contractor rates against contractor and client agreements — a key focus of this role
  • Prepare and process weekly contractor RCTIs in Xero, ensuring accurate and timely payments
  • Reconcile contractor payments against client invoicing, aligning costs to revenue to ensure completeness
  • Investigate invoice discrepancies and resolve payment queries with contractors via phone or email
  • Process weekly line haul invoices

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare and issue weekly client invoicing (automated and manual) accurately and on time, resolving data issues as they arise
  • Resolve customer and client billing queries professionally and promptly
  • Prepare and maintain client performance reports

Finance Administration

  • Maintain strong financial controls and internal procedures, including corporate credit card management and receipt policy compliance
  • Assist with general ledger maintenance and period-end balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support statutory, tax, and internal compliance requirements
  • Report on weekly line haul and storage costs, supporting margin and utilisation analysis
  • Work closely with other departments, especially Operations, to improve finance processes and ensure an accurate and timely flow of information
  • Maintain accurate, accessible financial records

About You

  • Proactive, with a positive attitude, an eye for detail, and a willingness to work hard
  • Proven experience in accounts payable and receivable, including reconciliations
  • Confident managing contractor rates and agreements, with a sharp eye for spotting discrepancies before they become issues
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and general ledger processes
  • Strong commercial and accounting acumen with a proactive, results-driven mindset
  • Rounded enough in your experience to hold your own in conversations with contractors and Operations, and land the best outcome for HDS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable managing diverse stakeholders
  • Well organised, with the ability to prioritise, delegate, and manage competing deadlines
  • A professional, respectful approach that reflects well on our business at every level

Why Join HDS

  • Join a rapidly growing national business with strong momentum
  • Be part of a supportive, collaborative finance team working closely with senior leadership
  • Gain broad exposure across AP/AR, reporting, and compliance in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Genuine room to grow and shape the role as the business scales
