Summary:

The Environmental Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that mining operations in Mount Morgan align to environmental regulations and meet all reporting obligations. This position is vital for promoting sustainable practices within the industry, measuring environmental impact, and ensuring compliance with local, state and national legislation. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to implement effective environmental management systems and contribute to the overall sustainability goals of the organisation within the Environmental management plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess environmental performance of mining operations to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Adhere to fulfil and implement environmental management plans and policies in line with site compliance requirements.
  • Provide training and support to staff on environmental issues and compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, community stakeholders, and other relevant parties to address environmental concerns.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and other environmental reports and documentation as required by legislation and company requirements.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to minimise waste and promote resource efficiency within the Mount Morgan mining operations.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience or capacity with monitoring and measurements of water quality, sound and dust
  • Commercial awareness related to environmental services, contractors and operational requirements

Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in an environmental role, preferably within the mining or resource sector.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and regulations applicable to the mining industry in Australia.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using environmental management software and tools.
  • A commitment to promoting sustainable practices and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
