This is a permanent full-time, on-site role with head office based in Cairns, so applicants must live locally or be genuinely willing to relocate. Most projects are local to Cairns or within approximately three hours’ drive, with travel and overnight stays required when project needs extend beyond Cairns. The role suits someone from a similar-sized civil contracting business who can operate at contractor level, take ownership of delivery and commercial outcomes, and lead with confidence across one major project or several smaller projects with engineering and site support.

Benefits of the role:

  • Permanent full-time, on-site role with head office based in Cairns
  • Competitive package including vehicle, with applicable uplifts and allowances when project work requires overnight stays away from Cairns
  • Senior ownership across delivery, commercial performance and client relationships
  • Strong engineering, supervision and operational support
  • Regional project exposure, with most work local to Cairns or within approximately three hours’ drive
  • Stable pipeline with a contractor that values practical decision-making

Responsibilities:

  • Lead one major civil project, or several smaller projects, depending on scale and business needs
  • Manage delivery, budgets, forecasts, progress claims, variations and project risk
  • Coordinate Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors and site teams to keep projects moving
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, TMR, local government and key stakeholders
  • Oversee planning, programming, procurement, resourcing and contract administration
  • Support safe, compliant and commercially sound project delivery
  • Support project delivery across local and regional sites, including travel and overnight stays away from Cairns when required
  • Report on project performance, risks, opportunities and key issues to the Operations Manager

Requirements:

  • Must be based in Cairns, or genuinely willing to relocate for a permanent full-time, on-site role
  • Willing to travel for regional project work and stay away from Cairns when required, with applicable uplifts and allowances. Time away is project-dependent and may be up to a maximum roster of 10 days on and 4 days off.
  • Occasional Saturday work may be required where project needs make it necessary
  • Bachelor of Engineering is required
  • Substantial civil construction project management experience
  • Experience in a similar-sized civil contracting business, with proven ownership of project delivery and commercial outcomes
  • Strong understanding of planning, programming, procurement, claims, variations and subcontractor management
  • Confident leadership style with the ability to guide Engineers, Supervisors and site teams
  • Experience with TMR, local government or civil infrastructure clients will be highly regarded
  • Commercially aware, practical and clear in communication

This role will suit an experienced Project Manager who wants ownership of complex civil works, strong support around them and a long-term role with an established civil contractor.
