Description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior SMSF Accountant/Reviewer to join our Funds Administration team in a quality reviewer role. You will play an important part in improving the consistency, efficiency and technical quality of our SMSF work.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys reviewing work, identifying compliance and process improvement opportunities and supporting accountants through practical coaching, feedback, and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review accountants’ work for tax and SIS compliance matters ensuring it meets Heffron standards, prior to audit.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and provide practical coaching, training and feedback.
  • Contribute to tax agent team meetings, including areas of risk and improvement.
  • Support continuous improvement of review processes, workpapers, systems and controls.
  • Work effectively as part of the quality team to systematically and sustainably improve our collective knowledge and the review process.

About You

You are a technically strong SMSF professional who can identify compliance issues, explain complex concepts clearly and deliver practical solutions. You enjoy helping others improve and are confident working across written, verbal, one-to-one and group settings. Future oriented, you are not interested in doing things the way they’ve always been done when new thinking is required to meet team and company goals.

  • 7+ years’ experience in SMSF accounting or audit.
  • High-level knowledge of SMSF legislation, tax and SIS compliance.
  • Experience reviewing accountants’ work, ideally for at least 12 months.
  • Willingness to do the work required to become a Registered Tax Agent.
  • Working knowledge of Class software and strong understanding of SMSF administration processes.
  • Excellent communication, able to clearly articulate changes or issues respectfully with clients and colleagues.
  • Planful, change oriented and a keen problem-solver.

Why join Heffron?

This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a practical, hands-on role while helping others build capability.

  • Additional leave benefits and flexibility to support balance and long-term sustainability.
  • The chance to work with and learn from highly regarded SMSF specialists and industry experts.
  • The opportunity to develop your skills and qualification for Tax Agent accreditation.
  • Scope to make real change in a growing organisation that values technical excellence and high-quality SMSF solutions.
  • A collaborative culture built on courage, accountability, trust, authenticity, respect and excellence.
