Claims Adjuster or Claims Assistant – Property, Sydney.
The Property claims adjuster is responsible for the registration, assessment, investigation, negotiation, and closure of Property claims for both Mid-Market and large Corporate insurance policies. The role involves interacting with claimants, insurance brokers, underwriters, adjusters / surveyors and various other parties involved in the Property claims process. You will be working under the supervision and guidance of the Property claims manager and senior claims adjuster.
This is a hybrid role: 3 days a week working in our Sydney CBD office, 2 from home.
The Property claims assistant role plays an important part in supporting day-to-day operations and ensuring the smooth delivery of claims services. This role works closely with internal teams and external partners to contribute to the efficiency and accuracy of our claims processes.
Claims Adjuster Key Responsibilities:
- Triaging and managing new Property claim notifications.
- Managing and supporting day to day activities of the Property portfolio.
- Managing and settling a portfolio of claims from first advice through to settlement.
- Managing and supporting day to day activities of the Property portfolio.
- Gathering and analysing claims related documents to support claim closure.
- Conveying decisions to the insured broker and explaining the reasoning behind those decisions when necessary.
- Assisting in the recovery process by identifying potential subrogation opportunities.
- Maintaining accurate claims records in the company’s database and complying with all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams, such as the broader claims team, underwriters, and risk management.
- Participating in training schemes as required and showing a commitment to continuous professional development.
Qualifications:
- Undertaking a tertiary qualification in Business, either at TAFE (Certificate or Diploma level) in Business or ANZIIF (Foundation Certificate in Insurance or above) or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Administration, Insurance or a related field.
- Competency in Excel, Microsoft word and Outlook.
- An understanding and experience working in claims related to Property insurance.
- Good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and multitasking abilities.
Claims Assistant Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality administrative and operational support for the Property claims team.
- Monitor the Property Claims inbox, ensuring all inquiries are reviewed and directed to the correct recipients.
- Assist with the preparation, documentation, and upkeep of internal claims procedures and policies.
- Assist with the preparation of claims reports, dashboards, and data analysis to support decision-making across the team.
- Support the maintenance of accurate claims data in internal systems, including manual records, bordereaux processing, and loss fund tracking.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with internal stakeholders, brokers, and third-party providers.
- Liaise with customer, clients and suppliers to enable efficient resolution of claims.
- Supporting enhancements in processes driven by regulatory updates, industry changes, or the implementation of best practices.
- Helping maintain strong internal and external working relationships, including coordination with third-party service providers.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in an administrative or support role within the insurance or financial services industry is preferred.
- Strong time management skills including the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to a high performing team and culture.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Comfortable working with third-party vendors and external partners.
