Haven Home Safe (HHS) is a purpose-driven, for-purpose, community housing provider committed to ending housing insecurity and advancing housing justice across Victoria. We centre the voices and lived experience of the people we support, working alongside our clients to deliver services that are respectful, inclusive, and responsive.

We deliver homelessness intake and referral services, integrated housing and support services encompassing Social and Affordable housing, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Transitional Housing Management (THM), and property services. We have four (5) main office locations – Bendigo (registered Head Office), Preston, Epping, Mildura and Geelong.

Summary:

The role will support private rental tenancies at risk via early intervention and assist those who have capacity to sustain private rental to enter the market. They will do this by providing targeted preventative programs, generating access to housing opportunities and understanding the dynamics of the local private rental housing market and identifying opportunities for at risk households.  

Responsibilities:

Client Service 

  • Maintain a client case load in line with funding and program guidelines. 
  • Support each client with the development of a tailored case plan, using a client-centred framework 
  • Provide time limited outreach interventions to support tenancies. 
  • Educate and support clients with private rental applications as well as connection to utilities and 
  • Services. 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Build links within the local real estate sector to enable advocacy for prospective renters and early intervention with households at risk. 
  • Develop working relationships with and link clients to appropriate community service providers 
  • Actively participate in existing collaborative arrangements within the sector. 

Adhere To Policies and Procedures 

  • Maintain accurate, professional and appropriate client records, case notes, case plans and other documentation
  • Comply with legislative requirements and work within HHS policies, procedures and practice frameworks 

Teamwork 

  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings, peer and individual supervision sessions. 

Actively contribute to the team through collegial support and assistance as required. 

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential 

  • Solid understanding of causes and barriers to private rental faced by homelessness or at risk of Homelessness
  • Knowledge of the local Real Estate sector regarding access and affordability of rental properties.  
  • A sound knowledge of housing options and what is required to access private rental housing.  
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, including demonstrated sensitivity to cultural awareness and needs of clients.  
  • Experience strictly adhering to established guidelines, policies and procedures  
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of confidentiality and privacy  
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management databases  

 

Desirable

  • A formal qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Social Sciences or equivalent.  

 

Safety Screening Requirements

  • Victorian Driver’s Licence. 
  • National Police Check. 
  • Working with Children Check. 

Travel Requirements

This role may require some travel.

 

This role involves direct client and community-based work, including outreach and lone working in unfamiliar environments. Employees may support individuals experiencing trauma, mental health issues, family violence, or significant psychosocial stressors, and may be exposed to emotionally challenging situations and, on occasion, distressed, agitated, aggressive, or violent behaviours. The role requires emotional resilience, sound judgement, and the consistent application of trauma informed and self-care practices. The organisation actively manages psychosocial and safety risks through risk assessment and planning, supervision, workload monitoring, safety protocols, check in procedures, training, managerial support, and access to employee wellbeing supports.
