Description
ABOUT US
Hampshire Property Group is a family-owned business, established in 2006, with a strong national presence in land lease living, holiday parks, and communities across Australia. We are committed to creating vibrant, community-focused environments where people can live well and explore their own backyard.
Our success is built on shared values that guide how we work every day: Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, Innovation, Quality, and Customer Focus.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, implementing, administering, automating and optimising network and systems infrastructure across our Australian and New Zealand operations. The core focus is ISP-grade routing and switching, resilient WAN and LAN architecture, repeatable automation, monitoring, configuration management and secure multi-site connectivity.
As our Network Engineer – Routing, Switching and Automation, you’ll work closely with the Head of Infrastructure and the broader IT team to deliver reliable, scalable and well-documented services across holiday parks, villages, communities and shared services environments. You’ll also support wireless PTP and PTMP networks, cloud-adjacent systems, operational technology connectivity and second- and third-level technical escalations.
You will combine deep engineering capability with a practical automation mindset: solving complex incidents, standardising configurations, improving observability and making infrastructure changes safer, faster and more repeatable.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Design, document, implement and maintain routed and switched network architectures across complex multi-site environments.
- Administer and optimise Layer 2 and Layer 3 services including VLANs, trunks, inter-VLAN routing, IP addressing, NAT, QoS, firewall boundaries and segmentation.
- Configure and troubleshoot BGP, OSPF, static routing, MPLS, VPNs and site-to-site connectivity, with engineering input into resilience, failover, capacity and service migration.
- Support fibre, NBN, fixed wireless, Ethernet, SIP carriage and business-grade internet services, working technically with carriers and ISPs to improve performance and reliability.
- Design and maintain network automation using Python, PowerShell, Ansible, APIs, templating, Git, structured data and repeatable deployment workflows.
- Automate inventory, configuration backup and deployment, compliance checks, firmware reporting and routine operations using safe change controls, testing, logging and rollback practices.
- Integrate source-of-truth, asset, monitoring and documentation platforms, and develop reusable standards for routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, VLANs, DHCP, DNS and monitoring profiles.
- Monitor infrastructure using telemetry, SNMP, syslog, NetFlow or equivalent data sources, dashboards and alerting platforms.
- Diagnose and resolve complex outages, routing instability, switching loops, packet loss, latency, bandwidth constraints, asymmetric routing and application connectivity issues.
- Apply security-first network design for corporate, guest, voice, CCTV, vendor and management networks through segmentation, firewalling, bandwidth controls and secure remote access.
- Design, deploy and optimise Wi-Fi and PTP/PTMP wireless networks, including RF planning, link configuration, subscriber modules, channel planning, firmware lifecycle and fault resolution.
- Support Linux-based infrastructure and operational platforms such as Proxmox, Ubuntu, Docker services, LibreNMS and related monitoring tools.
- Lead and support the infrastructure components of site upgrades, onboarding, network modernisation, ISP migrations, SIP changes and technology transformation programs.
- Coordinate vendors, contractors, ISPs and internal teams; maintain network diagrams, IP allocations, configuration repositories, implementation guides, runbooks and service records.
- Continuously improve network reliability, automation maturity, monitoring quality, security posture, standards and operational documentation, including proof-of-concept work for emerging technologies.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Demonstrated experience in network engineering, ISP or carrier-style routing and switching, and systems administration roles.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of VLANs, trunks, inter-VLAN routing, static routing, OSPF and/or BGP, NAT, VPNs, QoS, firewall policy and network segmentation.
- Experience supporting multi-site WAN and LAN environments across fibre, business internet, fixed wireless, MPLS, VPN and diverse carrier or ISP services.
- Practical experience with MikroTik RouterOS, Ruckus switching and Wi-Fi, Ubiquiti UniFi and UISP, Cambium Networks, Grandstream or comparable platforms.
- Experience implementing network automation or operational scripting using Python, PowerShell, Ansible, APIs, Git, templating, structured data or infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, configuration backup, network inventory, documentation and operational runbooks.
- Advanced troubleshooting capability across routing, switching, wireless, WAN, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, Linux and application connectivity.
- Experience administering Linux systems and network operations platforms such as Proxmox, Ubuntu, LibreNMS, Docker-based services or equivalent tools.
- Experience supporting CCTV networks, IP camera deployments, voice networks and secure remote access for operational systems.
- Working knowledge of PTP and PTMP wireless architecture, RF fundamentals, subscriber module deployment and wireless fault resolution.
- A strong commitment to documentation, configuration control, secure change, reliability and operational resilience.
- Clear written and verbal communication, strong customer focus and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a small, high-performing IT team.
Desirable experience or exposure includes:
- Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure services and identity or access governance.
- NetBox, Snipe-IT, LibreNMS, UISP, cnMaestro, source control, automation pipelines or similar operational platforms.
- Hospitality, holiday parks, residential communities, utilities, telco, ISP, managed services or other high-availability distributed environments.
- VOIP and SIP services, session border concepts, Yealink devices, carrier voice migrations and Cloudflare DNS or security services.
- ITIL and structured change management, Power Platform, Power Automate, Microsoft Copilot or other AI-enabled workflow tools.
- Certifications such as CCNA, MikroTik MTCNA/MTCRE, CompTIA Network+, JNCIA, Cambium or Ruckus accreditation, or equivalent practical experience.
