THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity is available for a highly experienced Project Manager – Technical to join the team at Hallett Group.

The Project Manager – Technical will play a key role in planning and delivering technical and operational projects across our quarry operations. The position will work closely with Quarry Managers, Production Managers, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.

 

A major focus will be the planning and delivery of overburden removal and quarry development projects, along with extraction planning, contractor coordination and cost management.

 

The role will also have a strong technical focus, including working with DIT technical specifications and compliance requirements, supporting research and development (R&D), product development and trials, and driving continuous improvement across the quarry technical and quality space.

 

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong technical and project management capability who enjoys working closely with operational teams and delivering practical improvements that support product quality, compliance, efficiency, cost reduction and the long-term development of our quarry operations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Provide technical support to General Manager, Production Managers and Quarry Managers to improve production efficiency and plant performance
  • Monitor product quality, investigate quality issues and drive improvements
  • Lead quarry product development, technical trials and R&D initiatives to identify new products and market opportunities
  • Develop technical standards, procedures and reporting to improve consistency across quarry operations
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction and continuous-improvement opportunities across quarry operations.
  • Support the Sales Team with technical and commercial product advice, customer solutions and project opportunities.
  • Overburden Projects: Plan, coordinate and manage overburden removal campaigns, including volumes, sequencing, budgets, contractor management, haulage and placement.
  • Quarry Development: Support quarry development plans, extraction sequencing, pit development and future resource access.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and deliver projects that improve quarry productivity, plant performance, product recovery and cost per tonne.
  • Provide technical input into new projects, plant upgrades, product specifications and production optimisation
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with operations, technical, maintenance, HSEQ, sales and external consultants to deliver projects.
  • Cost Control: Develop project budgets, track expenditure and identify opportunities to reduce overburden and quarry development costs.
  • Technical Planning: Work with Quarry Managers and Production Managers on technical solutions to improve extraction, production and operational efficiency.
  • Resource & Reserve Planning: Assist with geological information, quarry reserves, extraction plans and long-term quarry development.

QUALIFICATIONS | EXPERIENCE | CAPABILITIES

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Geology, Materials Earth Science, Extractive Industries, or a related technical discipline – Essential
  • Strong knowledge of DIT aggregate specifications, testing methods, NATA -QA/QC systems and product compliance.
  • Understanding of plant optimisation, production efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Experience in product development, technical trials and R&D would be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of relevant WHS, environmental and quarrying legislation.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work across operations, laboratory, sales and customers.
  • Experience with NCR investigation, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of plant optimisation, production efficiency and cost reduction.
