Description

Financial Accountant

Growthpoint Properties Australia | Melbourne | Permanent, full-time

Growthpoint Properties Australia is looking for a capable and commercially minded Financial Accountant to join its Melbourne finance team.

This is a broad financial accounting role within an ASX-listed A-REIT, offering exposure across month-end reporting, statutory reporting, audit, treasury and capital transactions, alongside plenty of opportunity to improve the way things are done.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you’ll play an important role in ensuring Growthpoint’s financial reporting is accurate, timely and well controlled, while working closely with stakeholders across finance, property, treasury and the broader business.

The opportunity

This role will suit someone who has built a strong grounding in financial accounting and is ready for a position with greater breadth and exposure.

You’ll be involved in the monthly close and reporting cycle, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory reporting and audit, while also supporting treasury, funds and transactional activity.

Importantly, Growthpoint is looking for someone who doesn’t simply follow existing processes. You’ll be encouraged to identify opportunities to simplify reporting, strengthen controls and introduce practical improvements and automation.

Your work will include

  • supporting the month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments, general ledger reviews and variance investigation
  • preparing monthly reporting packs, financial analysis and commentary for internal stakeholders
  • preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving reconciling items
  • supporting half-year and year-end statutory reporting, including audit workpapers, auditor queries and financial statement preparation
  • assisting with capital transactions, capital calls, distributions and drawdowns
  • supporting debt covenant, financing, lender and co-investment reporting requirements
  • working with property managers, FP&A, custodians, banks and other stakeholders
  • identifying opportunities to improve month-end processes, reporting, documentation and internal controls, with a focus on automation and simplification.

About you

You’re an experienced financial accountant who combines strong technical capability with curiosity and a genuine interest in improving processes.

You’ll bring

  • CA or CPA qualification
  • a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
  • at least three years’ experience across financial accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and management reporting
  • a strong understanding of general ledger processes, accrual accounting and financial controls
  • experience preparing audit workpapers and supporting external audits
  • strong Excel and financial systems capability
  • excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and deadlines
  • the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced finance environment
  • a proactive and improvement-focused approach, including the confidence to constructively challenge existing processes
  • strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across the business.

Experience within a listed company, property, funds management or A-REIT environment would be highly regarded.
