About Us
The future of the world is
increasingly digital and connected however many Australians suffer from
frustratingly slow internet.
At Gigacomm, we believe in the
power of connectivity to improve the world we live in. We build and operate an
independent network which uses the latest technology to provide reliable,
ultra-fast internet to Australian homes and businesses.
We are committed to building a
diverse and inclusive team who bring different perspectives, that help best
represent the customer and communities we serve, and who contribute to building
a rewarding culture.
About the Role
The Data Analyst owns Gigacomm’s
analytics layer end-to-end — the transformation, data quality, and the
analytics products and dashboards the business runs on. The data platform is
young, greenfield, and already in production: a BigQuery warehouse fed by
Python/Prefect ETLs from a dozen operational sources, with a Dataform
transformation layer and Power BI on top, all version-controlled and CI-driven.
This is a hands-on senior IC role.
You’ll build on the data landed by the platform engineering team and turn it
into trustworthy, well-modelled analytics that the executive team, Finance, and
the wider business depend on. The defining challenge is data quality as a
first-class capability — detecting contradictions in source systems, tracing
them to their origin, and driving the owning teams to fix them.
You’ll report to the Platform
Engineering Manager and work closely with the Analytics Product Owner, Finance,
and source-system owners across Service Delivery, Networks, and Sales.
We
expect this role to use AI tools (such as Claude or similar) as a standard part
of how the work gets done — not occasionally, but as the first place you reach
— and to increasingly automate the parts of the role that can be automated.
The role also includes participation in the platform team’s escalation rotation (on-call coverage).
What You’ll Do
Data
Quality
- Own the data-quality findings
funnel — validating candidate findings, assigning ownership and severity, and
routing each to the responsible team
- Trace data issues to their
source system and drive remediation with the owning team (Service Delivery,
Networks, Sales, Salesforce, JSM, ServiceNow)
- Build and maintain the
data-quality exceptions framework — non-blocking detection of source
contradictions, cross-source mismatches, and consistency violations
- Surface quality trends via the
Power BI DQ page and regression alerting to Slack
Data
Modelling & Transformation
- Own the Dataform transformation
layer — staging, marts, and promoted data products in BigQuery
- Model telecom domain entities
dimensionally — services, sites, buildings, billing events, orders
- Build and own the analytics
products: penetration cohorts, churn, site profitability, and revenue timelines
- Graduate marts into governed
products.* datasets with CI, freshness checks, and a registry
Analytics
& BI Enablement
- Own the BI
consumption layer — Power BI datasets, dashboards, connectivity, and
performance
- Deliver
self-service reporting for business users on governed, well-documented data
- Partner with
the Analytics Product Owner to productionise and extend analytical models and
share the modelling load
- Produce the
numbers Finance and the executive team run the business on
Engineering
Practice
- Own CI/CD for the analytics
layer — GitHub Actions, automated testing, and environment promotion
- Use AI-assisted engineering
workflows as the default way of working (Claude Code is the team’s production
workflow)
- Maintain a data catalog,
runbooks, and design specs so the estate is legible to the next engineer
- Monitor BigQuery slot and
storage usage and keep query efficiency in check
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- 4–8+ years in analytics
engineering, BI, or data analytics with senior-level ownership of a warehouse
transformation and BI layer
- Expert SQL and strong
dimensional and analytical data modelling — facts, dimensions, SCD2, event
timelines
- Hands-on experience with a
modern transformation framework — Dataform or dbt — including testing, CI, and
environment promotion
- Power BI (or equivalent) —
datasets, dashboards, performance tuning, and governed self-service
- Data-quality engineering:
assertions, anomaly and exception detection, and reconciliation across sources
- Tenacious at tracing data
issues to their source system and working cross-functionally to get them fixed
— this is core to the role, not incidental
- Working Python for data tooling
and checks
- Production experience with a
cloud data warehouse — BigQuery ideal; Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric,
or Azure Synapse backgrounds are very welcome
- Git-based development with
CI/CD (GitHub Actions or comparable)
- Comfortable adopting
AI-assisted engineering workflows as the default way of working
- Strong stakeholder skills —
works directly with executives, Finance, and domain experts; translates
business questions into models
- Low ego, high EQ — humble,
curious, open to having your mind changed, energised by respectful, data-driven
debate
Preferred
- Experience in
telecommunications, ISP, or wholesale B2B environments — services, sites,
provisioning, billing domains
- Workflow orchestration
familiarity — Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster (you consume orchestrated pipelines
rather than own them)
- GCP platform familiarity beyond
BigQuery — IAM, Workload Identity Federation, Terraform-managed infrastructure
- Familiarity with operational
source systems such as Salesforce, Jira/JSM, NetBox, billing platforms, or
ServiceNow
- FinOps awareness — warehouse
cost monitoring and optimisation
- Experience in high-growth or
scale-up environments
- Relevant, hands-on experience
matters more to us than formal certification.
