Purpose of Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Supervisor- Pit & Pipe with deep experience delivering pit and pipe infrastructure within large-scale optic fibre and duct network environments, specifically across Infraco-style duct networks (or equivalent). The ideal candidate brings recent, practical field experience in civil construction, hauling, duct remediation, and network readiness. This role will lead field teams, contractors, and subcontract partners to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely delivery of pit and pipe works that support fibre network deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field crews and subcontractors delivering pit, pipe, trenching, boring, remediation,
and duct network preparation.
- Manage day-to-day field operations, ensuring project milestones are met with high
safety and quality standards.
- Conduct regular site visits to inspect work progress, validate workmanship, and resolve
on-site obstacles.
- Provide expert guidance on pit and pipe construction standards, duct integrity, lead-in
pathways, and network build prerequisites.
- Oversee duct proving, rodding, roping, hauling readiness, and identification/remediation of
blockages.
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, construction packs, Dial Before You Dig
(DBYD) requirements, and Infraco/industry specifications.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues in the field, including duct blockages, pit defects,
and asset conflicts.
- Plan and coordinate works across multiple sites, ensuring efficient resource utilisation
and sequencing with fibre delivery teams.
- Monitor contractor performance, production metrics, safety compliance, and quality
outcomes.
- Prepare accurate daily/weekly reporting on construction progress, risks, delays, and
rectification activities.
- Collaborate closely with civil contractors, fibre delivery teams, network engineering, and
project managers.
- Represent field delivery in operational meetings, providing updates on readiness, risks,
and mitigation strategies.
- Build strong relationships with supply chain partners, asset owners, and local authorities.
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring all field activities comply with WHS
regulations and site-specific requirements.
- Conduct safety walks, toolbox talks, and on-site compliance checks.
- Maintain adherence to quality frameworks including compaction standards, pit
installation methods, conduit sizing, and reinstatement guidelines.
Skills and Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in the telecommunications or fibre deployment industry.
- Recent hands-on experience in pit and pipe installation, duct remediation, or civil works in optic fibre network environments.
- Strong understanding of Infraco (or similar) duct network standards, pit types, conduit structures, and network build practices.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing civil crews or subcontractors in telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret and validate construction drawings, scope packs, and as-built documentation.
- Solid knowledge of field safety practices, excavation requirements, and underground asset protection.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and operational planning skills.
- Experience supporting fibre rollout programs (e.g., nbn™, Infraco).
- Experience with GIS/field management tools, duct mapping, and asset recording.
- Understanding of reinstatement standards for councils or utility owners.
- Trade qualification in civil construction, telecommunications, or related field (or equivalent field
experience).
- WHS qualifications (White Card mandatory; Safety Supervisor highly regarded).
- Leadership or project management training is advantageous.
