Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Operator

Summary:

The Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of sewage treatment facilities on Fitzroy Island, Queensland. This permanent, full-time position is essential for maintaining environmental standards and public health by effectively managing wastewater treatment processes. The operator will be responsible for monitoring equipment, conducting tests, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This exciting position will require living on Fitzroy Island with accommodation provided. 

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain sewage treatment plant equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Monitor and control the treatment processes, including aeration, sedimentation, and disinfection.
• Conduct regular tests on water quality and report findings to management.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of plant machinery and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and health and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and test results.
• Assist in the training of new staff and provide guidance on operational procedures.

Qualifications:

• Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience in sewage treatment plant operations or a related field.
• Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and environmental regulations.
• Ability to operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
