Expression Australia is seeking an exceptional Executive Officer to the CEO who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. As a trusted advisor and key member of the CEO Office, you’ll coordinate strategic initiatives, support governance and executive operations, engage with a broad range of stakeholders, and ensure the organisation’s priorities are translated into action and results.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Executive Officer serves as the central point of coordination for the CEO Office and provides high-level strategic, operational and governance support. The role works closely with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Board, members, government and sector stakeholders to drive organisational performance and strategic execution.

This position requires a highly organised, commercially minded and politically astute professional who can balance competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Partner with the CEO to drive organisational strategy, projects and priorities.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor project progress, track deliverables and drive accountability across the organisation.
  • Prepare executive briefings, reports, presentations and business cases.
  • Identify opportunities to support revenue growth and organisational sustainability.

Executive & Governance Support

  • Coordinate ELT and Board meetings, agendas, papers and actions.
  • Support governance requirements and organisational compliance.
  • Prepare high-quality minutes, reports and executive documentation.
  • Ensure effective communication and alignment across leadership teams.

CEO Office Management

  • Act as a key gatekeeper and integrator for the CEO (including driving agreed actions to completion).
  • Draft CEO communications, speeches, media responses, and organisational messaging.
  • Manage a complex and dynamic executive diary.
  • Coordinate business travel, meetings, events and executive forums.
  • Anticipate challenges and proactively develop solutions.
  • Manage confidential correspondence and stakeholder enquiries.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support relationships with government, community, sector and business stakeholders.
  • Represent the CEO in meetings and forums where appropriate
  • Work in partnership with the ELT to coordinate priorities, monitor progress, and remove barriers to delivery.
  • Ensure communications are clear, accessible and culturally appropriate.
  • Assist with major organisational events, including Board and leadership retreats and the AGM.

About You

You are a strategic thinker who combines exceptional organisational skills with strong commercial acumen and influence. You are confident working with senior executives and boards, managing complex projects, and navigating ambiguity with professionalism and resilience.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in a senior advisory, strategy, consulting, Chief of Staff, Executive Officer or similar role.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into execution and outcomes.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in a purpose-driven, community, government or not-for-profit environment.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting Boards and governance processes.
  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusion.
  • Familiarity with government relations, policy or advocacy.
  • Knowledge of the Deaf community and/or Auslan.

Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to hold or obtain:

  • NDIS Worker Clearance.
  • Working with Children Check (or equivalent).
  • Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation requirements.
  • Willingness to complete required training, including Deafness Awareness and Communication Training and introductory Auslan programs.
