Position: Clinical Neuropsychologist 

Location: Essendon Football Club, Tullamarine

Employment Type: 0.2 FTE (1 day per week), Fixed Term for 2 Years (with renewal option) 

Start Date: late October 2026

Salary: $40,000 per annum (pro-rata, including superannuation; based on $200,000 FTE)

The BHI is a pioneering longitudinal research and clinical program focused on concussion management, player brain health, and wellbeing, providing extended clinical monitoring and research opportunities for AFL and AFLW players from draft through retirement and beyond.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Neuropsychologist to join our healthcare and high-performance team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of player brain health, combining clinical assessment and research in a professional sporting environment.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct neurocognitive assessments (pre-season baseline, post-concussion, and exit assessments) using a variety of tools, including electronic, paper-and-pencil, computerised tests, and self-report scales.
• Provide clinical opinions and support rehabilitation recommendations.
• Deliver assessment feedback to players and club healthcare staff.
• Manage and escalate care for players experiencing acute distress.
• Facilitate player recruitment and informed consent for the Brain Health Initiative research program.
• Ensure compliance with research protocols and act as the club’s database champion/super-user.
• Liaise with project managers and coordinate player research milestones.
• Engage in peer supervision and collaborate with club, AFL, and Brain Health Initiative neuropsychologists and psychologists.

Mandatory Requirements

• Masters or Clinical Doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology.
• Minimum two years’ experience in post-graduate clinical and/or research neuropsychology settings.
• Current AHPRA registration, Working with Children Check, and professional indemnity insurance.
• Current driver’s licence.
• Completion of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training (available free online through A-CTEC).

Desirable Experience

• Flexible availability to accommodate player schedules, particularly during busy periods.
• Experience in sports medicine or working with elite and professional athletes.
• Research experience in concussion, particularly sport-related concussion.

• Strong understanding of research principles and data management, including privacy and confidentiality requirements.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and meet research recruitment targets.
• Willingness to travel for player appointments when required.

• Strong clinical judgement, innovative problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
