POSITION DESCRIPTION

Senior Retail Sales Associate

ABOUT VELOUR & VINE

Velour & Vine is one of Melbourne’s most recognised premium fashion retailers, with a curated offering spanning contemporary womenswear, men’s essentials, accessories, and footwear. Our Chapel Street flagship is our largest and highest-performing store — a destination for loyal locals and visitors alike, known for its distinctive store aesthetic, expertly styled floor, and the quality of its in-store customer experience.

We believe that exceptional retail is built on genuine human connection. Our team of sales professionals are not just sales people — they are stylists, brand ambassadors, and trusted advisors to a loyal and growing customer base. With stores across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, Velour & Vine is entering an exciting growth phase, and this role sits at the heart of it.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a driven and experienced Senior Retail Sales Associate to join our Chapel Street team. This is a senior individual contributor role — you will be our floor’s most trusted sales professional, responsible for leading by example, building lasting customer relationships, and consistently delivering against ambitious sales targets.

This role suits someone who has a proven track record of high individual sales performance, a natural instinct for styling and product matching, and the confidence to mentor and support junior team members. You will work closely with the Store Manager and form a key part of the leadership presence on the floor day to day.

If you consistently exceed targets, love building a loyal client base, and take pride in delivering a premium customer experience — this role was designed for you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales Performance

  • Consistently achieve and exceed personal monthly sales targets, currently benchmarked at $35,000+ for this role
  • Drive strong average transaction values through expert outfit building, add-on selling, and accessories pairing
  • Maintain a high floor conversion rate by engaging customers early, assessing their needs, and delivering tailored product recommendations
  • Contribute to overall store revenue targets by supporting and motivating the broader sales team during your shifts
  • Sales incentive: Earn a monthly performance bonus for exceeding your individual target — our top performers regularly add $6,000–$10,000 per year through incentives

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and actively maintain a personal VIP client book, conducting proactive outreach ahead of new season arrivals, private sale events, and exclusive launches
  • Deliver a personalised, consultative service experience that keeps customers coming back — and recommending Velour & Vine to others
  • Follow up with customers post-purchase to ensure satisfaction and strengthen long-term loyalty
  • Represent the Velour & Vine brand with professionalism and warmth in every customer interaction

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Act as a senior presence on the floor, modelling best-practice sales behaviours and service standards for junior team members
  • Support the onboarding and in-store training of new sales associates, sharing product knowledge, service techniques, and store processes
  • Cover floor supervisor responsibilities during management absences, including opening and closing procedures, team deployment, and in-shift escalations
  • Contribute to weekly team briefings with performance insights, product feedback, and observations on customer trends

Visual Merchandising & Store Presentation

  • Maintain floor presentation standards throughout your shift, ensuring displays, fixtures, and fitting rooms remain in line with brand standards
  • Collaborate with the VM team during seasonal resets and campaign launches, taking ownership of your assigned floor zones
  • Provide feedback to the Store Manager on display effectiveness, stock placement, and customer navigation patterns

Operations & Stock Management

  • Assist with weekly stocktake counts, replenishment planning, and end-of-season inventory reviews
  • Process all payment types accurately, including EFTPOS, layby, gift cards, and online order collections
  • Handle customer returns, exchanges, and complaints confidently and in line with store policy
  • Contribute to loss prevention awareness on the floor, following all store security and merchandise protection procedures

ABOUT YOU

Experience & Track Record

  • Minimum 4 years of retail sales experience, with at least 2 years in a fashion, apparel, lifestyle, or accessories environment
  • Demonstrated history of consistently exceeding individual sales targets — we will ask about your numbers at interview
  • Experience building and managing a personal client base, with a proactive approach to customer outreach and retention
  • Some experience mentoring, training, or buddy-supporting junior team members

Skills & Capabilities

  • Exceptional consultative selling skills — you listen carefully, ask the right questions, and match customers to products they love
  • Strong styling instinct and genuine enthusiasm for fashion and current trends
  • Confidence managing high transaction values and navigating complex customer journeys
  • Ability to maintain high performance on a busy floor while projecting warmth, professionalism, and energy
  • Competence with retail POS systems (experience with Vend, Shopify, or Lightspeed is advantageous)
  • Solid understanding of visual merchandising standards and the ability to maintain them independently

Personal Attributes

  • Ambitious and target-driven — you are motivated by results and take personal pride in your sales performance
  • A natural relationship builder who genuinely enjoys connecting with customers and colleagues
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional — a team member that others look to set the standard
  • Resilient and adaptable, able to maintain energy and focus during high-pressure trading periods
  • A passion for fashion retail and the Velour & Vine brand aesthetic

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive base salary of $58,000–$66,000 + super, commensurate with experience
  • Monthly individual sales incentive with uncapped earning potential — top performers earn significantly above base
  • Generous staff discount across the full Velour & Vine range
  • Access to seasonal styling sessions, brand education events, and product knowledge training
  • A clear development pathway — many of our Store Managers started as Senior Sales Associates
  • A supportive, style-forward team culture where your contribution is recognised and valued
  • Priority access to new season collections before public release
