About the Opportunity

We have an incredible opportunity within our Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) High-Risk Team covering the Townsville District.

Passionate about transforming lives and creating positive change? We are looking for a new member of the team who wants to make a real difference to the lives of those impacted by DFV in our local communities.

This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates.

Take up a role that makes a difference!

  • This is a hands-on role that works with victim/survivors of DFV.
  • You will provide case coordination for those at high and imminent risk of DFV.
  • This includes support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, providing immediate assistance, risk assessment, safety planning, referrals, and ongoing support.
  • You will also provide cultural oversight and direction across DVNQ to ensure accountability and inform best practice when working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • You will work collaboratively with team members and other organisations to increase DFV understanding to build a consistent and timely response across the Townsville Region.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced knowledge of trauma informed contemporary practice, relevant theoretical models, frameworks, and highly developed counselling and advocacy techniques and case management skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and have knowledge of both cultures and societies from a historical and contemporary perspective to provide culturally appropriate advice.
  • High level of cultural expertise of family structures, cultural practices and protocols and knowledge of community connections.
  • Able to bring knowledge of intersectionality and diversity to develop and maintain respectful relationships with clients and across the service system and community.
  • Extensive, nuanced, and current understanding of the service system and other connected systems and can interpret it for each individual client and their diverse needs.
  • Highly competent and autonomous with advanced capability in complex decision-making, balancing safety, best practice, resource limitations and desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to skillfully and sensitively communicate complex information in a way that is sensitive, simple, clear, transparent, and appropriate in language and level of information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complex ways in which children are harmed through experiencing violence, and the tactics of control and abuse of power that they experience.
  • Capable of providing formal supervision, debriefing and mentoring to a team of practitioners in areas of legislation, standards, and guidelines relevant to the context of practice.
  • Ability to produce documents to a high standard such as resources, templates & reports and provide oversight of such documents produced by DFV Advocates.
  • Highly competent with technology e.g. Microsoft suite of programs, and the ability to work within various databases.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Holds a relevant degree (or has 5+ years’ experience in a similar field)

  • Has deep cultural insight into family structures, community connections, and protocols.
  • Applies intersectional and inclusive practice in all relationships.
  • Builds strong partnerships, shares knowledge, and supports sector capacity.
  • Shares information clearly, respectfully, and accessibly.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with excellent organisation and a positive, flexible attitude.
  • Practices emotional intelligence and self-reflection to support resilience and wellbeing in this vital work.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current QLD C Class Driver’s License which must remain current during the term of employment.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card) which must remain current during the term of employment.
  • Australia: National Police Check Clearance – at organisation expense.
