Doncare is seeking an experienced and values-driven Retail Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of one of our community opportunity shops.
Reporting to the Retail Operations Coordinator, the Retail Manager is responsible for the performance, leadership and successful operation of their allocated store.
This role offers the opportunity to combine commercial retail experience with meaningful community impact. You will lead and support a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, drive sales performance, maintain high standards across the store and create a positive experience for customers, donors and the wider community.
About the role
As Retail Manager (General Retail Industry Award Level 6), you will:
- Lead the day-to-day operations and performance of your allocated store
- Monitor sales results and work towards achieving budget objectives
- Drive sustainable growth and maximise the store’s profit potential
- Lead, support and motivate a team of approximately 30 volunteers
- Manage volunteer rosters, training, communication and performance
- Oversee donation processing, pricing, stock rotation and presentation
- Maintain high standards of visual merchandising and customer service
- Ensure cash handling, banking and store records are accurate and compliant
- Develop local promotional activities and community relationships
- Promote a safe, inclusive and values-based workplace culture
- Ensure compliance with Doncare’s policies, procedures and work health and safety requirements
About you
You will be an experienced retail leader who can balance commercial performance with strong people leadership.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience managing a retail store or similar operation
- Strong sales, budgeting and operational management skills
- Experience leading, coaching and developing teams
- The ability to build positive relationships with volunteers, customers, donors and community stakeholders
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience with stock management, merchandising and loss prevention
- Confidence using point-of-sale, rostering and reporting systems
- A practical, hands-on leadership style
- A commitment to Doncare’s values and community purpose
Experience working with volunteers, in community retail or within the not-for-profit sector will be highly regarded.
Hours and location
This is a part-time position worked across four days and based at one designated Doncare opportunity shop although you may need to work at other locations at times.
The ordinary roster is expected to be primarily Monday to Thursday. Some rostered Saturday work will be required, with the weekday work pattern adjusted accordingly.
