Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (DYHS) is one of Western Australia’s largest and most respected Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, delivering comprehensive, culturally safe health services to Aboriginal people across the Perth metropolitan region.

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Medical Director to join our Executive Management Team and help shape the future of Aboriginal health.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced medical leader who is passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities and is seeking a predominantly strategic and executive leadership role.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board and Executive Management Team, the Medical Director provides strategic leadership across all clinical services and medical governance functions of DYHS.

Importantly, this is primarily a strategic, executive management and leadership position. While maintaining clinical credibility and oversight, the role is predominantly non-patient facing, with limited direct clinical responsibilities.

The Medical Director will lead the development and implementation of contemporary models of care, strengthen clinical governance systems, drive continuous quality improvement, and ensure the organisation remains at the forefront of culturally safe and clinically excellent healthcare.

As a key member of the Executive Management Team, the Medical Director will play a critical role in organisational strategy, business planning, risk management, stakeholder engagement and the ongoing growth and sustainability of DYHS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership across all medical and clinical services.
  • Lead and oversee the organisation’s clinical governance framework.
  • Contribute to organisational strategy as a member of the Executive Management Team.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to the CEO, Board and Executive.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery and models of care.
  • Lead medical workforce planning, recruitment, development and retention strategies.
  • Foster a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, cultural safety and collaboration.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community, health partners, government agencies and peak bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accreditation standards and professional obligations.
  • Champion culturally safe, evidence-based healthcare that improves outcomes for Aboriginal people and families.

About You

You are an experienced and respected medical practitioner with a demonstrated capacity to lead at an executive level.

You will bring:

  • Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
  • Fellowship of RACGP, ACRRM or equivalent specialist qualification.
  • Significant senior leadership and management experience within healthcare.
  • Demonstrated experience operating at executive or senior management level.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in clinical governance, accreditation and quality systems.
  • Proven ability to influence strategy, lead organisational change and drive service innovation.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A strong commitment to Aboriginal health and culturally safe practice.
  • Experience working within Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services will be highly regarded.

Desirable:

  • A person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.

Other Requirements:

  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (not older than 6 months)
  • Valid WA Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel as required.
  • Current Working with Children check.
  • Pre-Employment Health Assessment.
