Lead Network and System Administrator

Adelaide, South Australia 5000, Australia • Full-time

Description

Lead with Impact — Shape the Backbone of Critical Infrastructure

We’re seeking an experienced and driven Lead Network Systems Administrator to head a high-performing team responsible for the design, security, and performance of complex network infrastructures in a mission-critical defence environment.

In this role, you will not only apply your deep technical expertise to deliver secure, high-availability infrastructure, but also lead and manage a team, providing guidance, support, and professional development to ensure operational excellence.

About the Role

As the Lead Network Systems Administrator, you’ll take charge of designing, implementing, and managing robust, secure systems that support essential software development operations in a high-security setting.

You’ll play a dual role — as a technical authority and a people leader — ensuring that both systems and staff are performing at their best. You’ll oversee daily operations, lead complex projects, mitigate risks, and drive process improvements — all while nurturing a positive, collaborative team culture.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • People leadership – guide, support, and manage team members, fostering collaboration, cross-skilling, and continuous growth.
  • Design and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance infrastructure to meet evolving mission requirements.
  • Enhance and document workflows, systems, and procedures to support service availability and operational excellence.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee project and BAU activities, balancing delivery quality with complexity and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and proactively manage infrastructure risks.
  • Champion automation and continuous improvement using modern tools and practices.

What You Bring:

  • Proven experience in a technical leadership or infrastructure team lead role.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and developing technical teams in secure or high-compliance environments.
  • Strong background in network and systems infrastructure, including compute, storage, and backup technologies.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, PowerShell) and virtualized environments (VMware, vSphere, NSX).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and a collaborative mindset.

Desirable Certifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
