Description

Purpose of Position

As a Senior Project Engineer, you are the technical backbone of our project delivery team. You take ownership of client projects with input into scoping through to handover — planning solutions, leading implementations, and ensuring every deployment is delivered on time, on budget, and to a standard our clients rely on. You work across the full MSP technology stack: cloud and Microsoft 365, networking and security, virtualisation and server infrastructure. Beyond the hands-on delivery, you set the technical bar for the team — mentoring engineers, refining our standards, and acting as the escalation point when things get tricky.

This is a role for someone who enjoys both depth and breadth: comfortable architecting a firewall migration one week and a Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration the next, while keeping stakeholders informed and junior engineers growing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the end-to-end technical delivery of client projects —having input on scoping/design, but owning the building, testing, implementation, documentation and handover to support.
  • Assist the Pre-Sales team with technical scoping, solution design, project planning, and budget estimation to ensure successful project delivery
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex project issues, reducing roadblocks for engineers and safeguarding delivery timelines.
  • Highlight any tasks or issues which fall out of original scope, or may impact client expectations, project budget or deliverables;
  • Ensure project documentation, including project plans, technical specifications, and user manuals, are accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure time entries, tasks, notes and relevant information are documented via our CRM / Ticketing system;
  • Own project risk from a technical standpoint — identify dependencies, plan rollbacks, and schedule change windows to minimise client disruption liaising with a Project manager for any assistance or escalation.
  • Ensure all work is delivered to internal standards and industry best practice, with complete as-built documentation.

Cloud & Microsoft 365

  • Design and deliver Microsoft 365 and Azure solutions — tenant setup, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access and Intune.
  • Plan and execute email, file, and tenant-to-tenant migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Implement Azure infrastructure — virtual networks, virtual machines, backup, and site-to-site connectivity.

Networking & Security

  • Design, configure and deploy firewalls, switching, routing, VPNs and wireless (e.g. Fortinet, Cisco Meraki, Palo Alto, Ubiquiti).
  • Implement security controls aligned to frameworks such as the ACSC Essential Eight, including MFA, Conditional Access Policies, EDR / MDR, patching and application control.
  • Lead network refresh, segmentation and connectivity projects across single and multi-site environments.

Virtualisation & Server Infrastructure

  • Design and deploy virtualisation platforms (Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware vSphere) and Windows Server environments.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions (e.g. Cove Backup, Datto, Azure Backup).
  • Deliver storage, Active Directory, and hybrid identity projects.

Stakeholder & Mentoring

  • Partner with account executives, project managers and clients to keep delivery aligned to expectations and commercial outcomes.
  • Mentor and upskill project and support engineers, conducting peer reviews of designs and implementations.
  • Contribute to pre-sales — scoping, effort estimation, and reviewing solution proposals for technical feasibility.
  • Feed lessons learned back into internal standards, runbooks and automation.
